Yes, report it, so HG can fix it.

I think it will be a deal breaker for a lot of potential buyers on GOG if there's no cross platform multiplayer support between GOG and Steam. This includes me, despite I prefer buying my games on GOG over Steam.

The option that works for me is to join a random game. But this woks fine (always at second try). And people join my games. There's no game shown in the lobby or other possibility to filter the game i'd like to join. Any other experiences?
Also I meet always the same 3-4 gamers. So there seems to be a filter by region or something. I don't know where the server takes the data from. IP, ping, ...?

But People WANT crossplay especially between GOG and Steam !!!! I WANT crossplay between this platforms in this game, or is ther a way to get it on steam when having it here?
In fact it was the only reason why i came back to play NMS, then waited several months to get multiplayer functionality.
Hoping to finally be able to play with my steam friends which have multiplayer already for quite some time, i downloaded the and now i read this Post.
Im very very disappointed !
It can not be impossible to achieve that, others did it before, and even if it hadnt been done before, it would be worth doing.

Well, your Steam friends can't play with their GOG buddies, either, because Steam won't allow crossplay, either. Steam uses the same multiplayer engine for all of its on-line games, and is highly protective of it. Basically, because Steam doesn't want to support GOG multiplayer, each distribution company has to serve up its own, I gather. But if HG through Sony put up its own NMS MP servers--then everybody could play regardless of the purchase point of the game. For me, this game is mostly single-play, anyway, so I went with GOG from day one.

high rated
We are all PC users. It's not 'crossplay' to expect to be able to play with anyone with the PC version regardless of which online retailer we used. Just how ridiculous would it be if this happened with retail stores...sorry you can't play with your friend, he didn't buy it at EB like you did. Utter nonsense.

This absence of so called "crossplay" (I agree with Xwaste) was the exact same reason that made Tooth and Tail removed from GoG shop in the end... (at least they gave Steam keys, still it's not a real fix)
This is starting to be settled as a real fad to see several different versions of the same game (sold at the same price) regading to where you do buy them, and it is literally at the fringe of proprietary versions and services...
This is really a problem, and the symptom of a legal vacuum about this very subject.

the_mister_banana: So if there is no chance to get the Steam & GoG Versions to "crossplay", then why not simply put NMS into GoG Connect?
This could be a good opportunity to get more people into using GoG Version - plus, nobody wants to pay twice for a game just because some retailer want to "keep his backyard clean"...
How would that get more people using the GOG version? If you want to play MP, you've most likely got the Steam version already. If you've got the game on GOG, you likely don't need or want the Steam version. In fact, I can see this taking people away from GOG. If you're a GOG owner and want MP, if you get the Steam version via Connect, you'd more than likely use that for multiplayer since the Steam version has way more players. All that aside, Hello Games would have to approve of the idea before GOG could offer it on Connect anyway.

This isn't Steam's fault? GOG provides a crossplay library for devs to allow GOG and Steam users to play together. Why would they offer such a library if Steam wouldn't allow it?

As far as i know, GOG Connect doesn't work bi-directional. It only pulls games from your steam library onto your GOG library. So if I'm telling my "NMS Steam Version"-owning friends to get a GOG account and get NMS for free here via Connect so we can play altogether - I don't see a point why they should deny.

When multiplayer was added to the Steam version, Hello Games promised that multiplayer would be added to the GOG version, and that there would be crossplay between GOG and Steam. This is the only reason I didn't take GOG up on its offer of a full refund. Now it's been confirmed that Hello Games was definitely lying, once again, and this time they screwed me out of a refund.
