This is just a venting of frustration.

In the 400ish hours I have played the game in various modes, all but handful of the times I have died (4-5 times) were caused by bugs in the software or shooting myself with the plasma cannon (which I no longer use). Most often I just magically fall through the world/frigate/etc, but there have been many other wacky deaths. That's annoying, but it happens less often now, so I can live with it, so to speak.

What drives me up the bloody wall on the other hand is how many times this game crashes for no reason when "just playing the game". Most often in recent times the game locks up when using the terrain manipulator, be it collecting resources or digging something up. Totally random; most times I can play for hours without a problem, but other times I'll get 3 crashes an hour when doing the same activities.

Guess when the game will crash 95% of the time. That's right, every single time I attempt to do one of those Nexus missions. In fact, in the last two months I have only been able to complete 1 mission. Just one. Every other time the game has locked up due to one of the various annoying bugs and of course, "leaving the game" cancels the mission.

What a stupid waste of my time.

These missions that must be completed in one session shouldn't be in the game, because frankly, the game has too many bugs for the missions to work as intended. Throwing away 5, 10, 30 minutes of a person's life for absolutely no reward is just... stupid.

Nexus missions are cursed.
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles with crashing, but you shouldn't consider this to be the case for everyone and make generalisations, such as buggy game etc. I've been doing nexus missions every single day since i bought the game when Beyond came out. That's more than a year now. And i dont even remember if it has ever crashed during those. Maybe it has, but definitely not more than five times in total.

So please dont say such things as "one-session missions should not be in the game, because *my* game crashes so often", 'cause it doesn't make you look good.

The truth is what it is.
The truth is that many people complete Nexus missions successfully. This is evident in the many console players, who cannot use the save-editor to grant themselves Quicksilver, yet roam the anomaly wearing armor parts that can only be obtained by spending Quicksilver.

The only way to get Quicksilver, other than Nexus missions, is to farm condensed Stellar Ice or the derelict freighters as of the latest update, for minimal amounts. Based on this, i would bet most players, and not just me, are able to complete Nexus missions regularly.

I see this truth every time i find myself in the Anomaly.
I complete QS missions all the time. Once or twice there was an issue when returning to the anomaly thet I lost the mission and had to do it again. Generaly I find this game very stable, the only time there are issues is at the anomaly but it is very rare. I play on both GOG and Steam and I'm considering getting it on Xbox.
The thing is, I am not joking here. I can play the game for 9 hours straight one day, no problem. The next day I log in and think, "well let's try doing one of those nexus missions" and honest to God the game will crash before I can complete the mission. I have successfully completed less than 20 of these missions, ever (properly closer to 10). Yet I have 310 hours on one save, 115 on another, 32 on a different one, 20 something on Steam, and a bunch of other saves I have deleted. It's not like the game doesn't frinkin' work on my computer! lol...

Nexus missions are cursed.

Ps. And this is multi-player disabled 99% of the time and not using any mods.

It's not that i dont believe you. Sounds like you 're really jinxed. But i cannot in good conscience let the impression of the game being buggy hang around in this thread, when it's so clearly incompatible to my own experience, because readers still considering whether to buy the game or not might get the wrong idea, and that's simply not fair to the developers.

Your hours of play may seems like a lot to you, but they are not. I have 1.620 hours according to GoG and many of my friends surpass me, some even having upwards of 4.000 hours. And believe it or not, we tend to do our daily nexus missions each day, either together or solo.

I realize you may have written this post half-humorously, but please dont blame the game code for what is obviously a very personal experience, evidently not shared by most players. Whether it's your software, hardware or sheer bad luck, it's not fair for the devs that they would lose even one potentional customer over this.
Bummer, I was just about to suggest turning off multiplayer. All I can say is you know how computers are, each one is configured differently and each has it's own issues. Speaking of which, what's your specs?

To satisfy your curiosity,

AMD FX-8320 with Silverstone AR02 cooler
ASUS M5A97-R2.0
2 x 4GB GSkill DRR3 2133MHz @ 1600MHz
2 x 8GB GSkill DDR3 1600MHz
EVGA Black XC GTX 1660
Crucial MX500 500GB SATA SSD
SK-Hynix S250G32TND 250GB SATA SSD
OCZ-ONYX 32GB SATA SSD
Western Digital 1TB 7200
Samsung DVD/RW
NZXT HALE82 650W PSU
BenQ GW2470 24" VA LCD
Logitec M510 mouse (wireless)
Redragon K582 Surara keyboad

The M5A97-R2.0 only supports DDR3 1866/2133 when using two DIMMs. I needed more than 8GB RAM for programming / virtual machines and 2 x 8GB 2133MHz DDR3 was twice as expensive as a 1600MHz kit. So 24GB of slower RAM, with speed and timings manually matched, works for me. I benched marked it and the difference is almost non-existant (compiling with GCC is actually faster due to using a RAM drive for temp/object files, which requires 18-20GB RAM).

Blah blah, FX series bad. The entire system, screen included, only pulls 295W when running the Unigine Superposition 1080p Medium benchmark and, according to their results database, its score is 89% of a system running a Ryzen 3700X with the same video card. NMS tends to hover between 180-260W. That's pretty damned good for a 7 year old PC that's never crashed or thermal throttled.

In fairness, enabling CPU load line calibration will cause a shut down under high load, but there's absolutely no point in enabling that as it just uses way more electricity for absolutely no benifit whatsoever. Not even a single FPS or second knocked off a compile time. That setting is really meant for boards with beefier VRMs and high over clocks, so if you're not doing that LLC should be disabled. I am happy running at 3.8 - 4.2GHz, which is a nice balance of performance and power consumption.

<-- Is that kind of nerd. :)

Anyway, the old beast still does everything I want it to do. Thank goodness, because there are so many other things we need to spend money on!
That's quite a detailed list. I've seen mem mismatch cause problems in NMS before, however seems you may have that covered but may be something to consider. You could try running just the 16 gig to see what happens.
Sorry Tatwi but I dont think you're experience with the game is common.

Have you sent any save files and steps to reproduce your issues to hellogames?

https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

DXDiag and Vulkaninfo would be useful for them too

I have. Never recieved a reply, so I can't say if the data was helpful. Most recently I just sent an angry message. :)

Happy to hear that the rest of you are fine. Also happy that absolutely everything else I do with my PC is completely fine! Including playing rest of NMS most of the time haha....

They don't answer anymore, they will just prioritise your report depending on how you responded to the question "How has this issue affected your gameplay?". Crashes and game stoppers usually come out as a fix within a few updates if they can be reproduced.

They used to be very engaging in the first year (in my experience anyway) for anyone not getting personal in the reporting procedure, but after they started getting death threats over content not being in the game in the early days they stopped doing any personal responding completely, and just stuck to showing the world what has been fixed via the patch notes.
NMS is one of the games that never crashes for me. I've read reports where users experience crashes who enabled multiplayer. There were also some problems with AMD cards in the past due to driver problems.

So maybe Nvidia + offline play works fine and AMD videocard + online play increases the chances of a crash.
Well I'm doing alot of nexus missions but never got crashes.
The only crashes i got with this game is when i did changes in the graphic settings menu. Then it sometimes may crash.
Otherwise, this game is running perfect on my setup:

- Win 7 (64-bit)
- AMD FX 8350
- GTX 1060 (3GB VRAM)
- 16 GB Ram (1666 MHZ)
- Installed on a 128 GB SSD by Intenso
