jsauerii: I am seeing some comments in some main forums that Sean abandoned the GOG version. That he will not be updating the GOG version.... While I am not inclined to believe that at face value.... I am starting to wonder what the hell he is doing. That being said my steam version is buggy as hell, missing ships, cant warp etc. basically all of the original bugs being returned from the first versions just like HG is notorious for doing.

We may not be missing much here yet.......
And when they fix those bugs, we'll probably have to wait longer than the Steam owners.
...and the download has started for me in the UK.

Honestly the people complaining here should grow up and learn a bit of patience. Your update is now HERE on the date promised and coming through mere moments after you were throwing your toys out of your prams like spoilt entitled brats.

All the people saying "I'm leaving GOG" or "I'm starting a Reddit thread!" - totally pathetic behaviour.

Yup! walked away from my desk for a few minutes, came back and I had v1.5!
A friend says it was 6.5GB on steam. GOG's is 8.2GB, maybe we got an extra little hotfix patch included?! :)

My update is here on the July 25th, as it started well after midnight at where i am at this time. More importantly, however, is that gog.com did not communicate the delay - which was what, about 6 hours in compare to all other versions or so. One can possibly agree that a release which is #1 product in steam at the time requires a bit more attention than most others, know what i mean? :)

Now i started a reddit thread about it - https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/91ltma/please_help_us_next_is_still_not_available_for/ . So, i'll take your words personally. Would you kindly point out to any "pathetic behaviour" i presumably demonstrated by doing so, please? I am very willing to "grow up" if anything i said is immature.

And if you can't, then know i have no hard feelings but would appreciate an apology. ;)

Maybe true but it still doesn't excuse lack of communication regarding this update.
I understand that some people will be annoyed that the multiplayer aspect has been delayed, I suspect GOG MIGHT consider refunds (although it's not guaranteed), NMS is now 50% off on Steam.

Please note GOG are not deliberately trying to rub you the wrong way, they are subject to what companies provide them.

I currently prefer to get my titles DRM free from GOG before purchasing on other platforms (with Steam, Origin, uPLAY etc not only do you get the DRM in the form of the client but ALSO any additional DRM that is part of the game itself). If that means I have to wait a little longer then I can handle that, it's not like I haven't got "a metric f*ck tonne" of other unplayed games bought in sales waiting for me to get around to them.

If you mean the thing about multiplayer, then yeah, technically correct, but OTOH, hey, NMS was never meant to be anything like traditional multiplayer titles, we knew that very well even before it was released in 2016, so in me book, while technically correct to say "some of the update", - it's ethically not. We're presumably getting everything there is to single player experience in a game which always was primarily about lonely exploration and such. At least, i'd rather say "most of the update" instead of "some of the update", you know?

I'm not about to start a back and forth communication with you on a forum that no-one else will want to read. You are complaining you had to wait 6 hours? Has your house suddenly collapsed or the world exploded because you were having to wait a bit longer than you thought? Of course not. What were you hoping to accomplish with your reddit thread? That Hello Games were going to suddenly scream in the office "we're currently rolling this out on another online platform but STOP EVERYTHIING because Fins_FinsT is getting annoyed, call out the national guard we MUST do GOG next?!!!" Of course not.

Hello Games will be pushing this out as a "rolling update" like all sensible developers would, they roll out to one platform at a time, check all is working and that the update has taken, wait to check that users can download the update, that the game will start, THEN they move onto the next download platform... apparently GOG was a little further down their list, or they ran into problems earlier that they needed to correct so that subsequent rollouts would go smoothly. You DON'T blanket release your update on a dozen different places all at the same time, because if something is wrong you then have to simultaneously start a dozen different communicartions with those companies asking them to pull the update, field question from a dozen different sources as to what is wrong, have to then check a dozen different sources to make sure the backout worked etc. etc. etc.

I would call your efforts immature as you are demanding people mobalize and contact GOG in an "urgent, important" way because you can't play your game, you claim them taking their time to release as a "denial of service" which it is no such thing (look up what it actually means) and it's just inflamatory language for no reason, then you DEMAND GOG give people free Steam keys ASAP?! WHAT??? How exactly are they supposed to do that, they are two completetly seperate companies! Finally proclaiming that it's all "ruining GOGs reputation rapidly"... errr, I don't think GOG's sweating it as a multi-million pound company because you're unhappy you're not getting to play your PC game THE VERY SAME SECOND that Steam users can.

I'll apologise to you if you apologise to GOG and Hello Games, they're not DELIBERATELY trying to make your day miserable, cut them some slack ;-)

I did not demand anything. You say i did. I say you lie - or fail to read english for what it is. Sad.

I'd explain to you in detail why i politely requested those specific actions from gog.com, and who exactly are "we" i mentioned in the reddit topic, but seeing what i just said - i don't think it'd work. So i won't. Just trust me about this: what i wrote was from a collective, and personally i am quite sure that at the time what i requested would be an optimal solution for all 3 parties involved.

Oh and please do note that the thing about steam keys was a conditional request, - only to be done in certain (explained there) circumstance. As for how it could be done, - there were precedents in the past for other products. Please do use your favorite search engine to see details about it, if you wish.

I don't think i anyhow offended either Hello Games nor GOG. And after your post i quoted here, i see that we two are most likely going to ultimately disagree with each other about many specific points, and thus i am not interested in any kind of further communication with you.

Sorry. Please have a great day, anyhow!

I posted this in the thread about all this in the main forum:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/no_mans_sky_next_update_now_live_08fb8/post159

This was the text:

I love GOG and NMS enough to have put in some effort and had my thread on modding NMS become a stickied/topped thread in the NMS forum. I always like to help anyone that comes to the NMS forum with questions, either with answers or dry humour if i have no answers! :)

I was NOT expecting this as i logged out of GOG yesterday, maybe the usual delay in getting an NMS update later than Steam (and seeing the usual chorus of people threatening to leave GOG for Steam etc - happens every single update for NMS!), but not a COMPLETE lack of comparative functionality over the most talked about aspect of the NEXT update!

That is something out of left-field!

So GOG users have a year (or so) or maybe never (these things can happen!) to see parity with the other platforms (Xbox/PS4/Steam). I completely understand the frustration and anger that many people are going to vent over this, we gamers are the least patient and understanding of creatures! But i have answers/suggestions for all involved :)

For the GOG NMS user:

Don't let this disappointment define you. Don't let the levels of toxicity in you rise to the levels we saw over the original release of NMS all those years ago. And the reason why is quite simple, it is not good for your health (Physical or Mental). NMS is just a game. So keep that in mind while we work out what to do going forward :)

For GOG and Hello Games:

Would not like to be in your guys shoes, but there is hope :)

Let people use GOG connect for NMS, so those that really must play MP (as promised) can transfer their GOG purchase to their Steam accounts and play the game they paid for here, help ease the levels of toxicity :)

For Hello Games:

Steam has been designed to 'lock' you into it, either as a user or developer! As a small team you need to be aware of that as you build systems in your games that relay on Steam. Try to avoid those as much as possible to keep your games as platform agnostic as possible.

------------------------------------

Good luck to all involved, the angry frustrated GOG user and both teams at GOG and Hello Games. We can get through this by making the right decisions :)

And thanks for Hello Games for carrying on to support and improve NMS. NEXT deserves to be huge for you guys and I look forward to the future development of NMS.
So anyone tried the 'Offline backup Installer' option yet? It's looks pretty confusing to the extent i 'think' it is not yet fully available via this method? It always takes longer than the Galaxy option (which sucks but whatever) and i'm sure GOG is swamped over NMS right now. Anyway this is what it looks like in my download section:

No Man's Sky (part 1 of 4) = 1.5 (1MB)
No Man's Sky (part 2 of 4) = 1.5 (4GB)
No Man's Sky (part 3 of 4) = 1.5 (4GB)
No Man's Sky (part 4 of 4) = 1.5 (1.7GB)

Patch 1.38 14918 > 15370 (49MB)

So 1.5 IS the NEXT update right? But i guess that Patch is for the older pre-NEXT version?

It will be a couple of days (maybe next week) until i try it for myself, but it would be great to hear from others that use the offline installers over galaxy. Is it all working?
I would be perfecty fine to wait for gog mulitpayer IF NOT:

"Soon after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events.

This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions. Take part in community missions and unlock new rewards and customisations."
