JudasIscariot: Your best bet would be to request that Hello Games add in a feature where you can change your name when offline.
Forgive me for my ignorance but how does the name feature constitute as DRM?
Socratatus: At last!
Explanantion:
Being able to name your character and stuff in an open world type game makes a game personal to the User. In fact, most games lose any kind of personality if you cannot put
your name to it. It
immerses the Player User into his game, even if offline and Single Player.
Pretty much
ALL games Devs know this from the earliiest Ultima games to today. That`s why it`s mind boggling that suddenly in games like MOO and NMS you can`t. This encourages people to use GOG Galaxy (which allows you to name your character at least by the Galaxy User name) when many don`t actually want to use an extra utility. I`ve seen people here immediately say they will go Galaxy just to be able to name their character Avatar, hence pushing people onto Galaxy.
Is GOG Galaxy not a form of DRM?
In my opinion it`s a needless extra utility much like Steam was and Steam started very much in this way before it became forced.
The fact that nobody answered these questions when asked previously, forces people like me to make assumptions. The logical assumption was this was an `on the sly` attempt to get people onto Galaxy, like Steam.
Also, I also ask politely to start with, but getting no answer for weeks can lead to frustration especially when we pay so much money on these things. We, the Player-user deserve an answer. This is the first time in weeks that anyone has bothered to answer the question that was asked multiple times.
In any case a person should not be penalised for not using GOG Galaxy and you appear to be saying this is not the case- fair enough, I will believe you unless facts to the contrary appear. I appreciate your reply. I sent messages to the Hello games people too (politely, always politely) and of course, no response. I will re-double my efforts with them.
If not having GOG Galaxy installed were to prevent you from playing a game offline and install it as many times as you wish, then yes it would be DRM.
As for not answering questions, I do apologize on our behalf for that. It's only due to the amount of questions and well, I had to test No Man's Sky for myself in various ways so that I could know more about it when it's played offline :)
Going back to the DRM portion of your post, ask yourself this:
Can you play the game offline?
Can you install it as many times as you wish and on as many compatible PCs in your house without being hassled by install limits or online activation?
The name feature being only reserved for those who connect online via Galaxy is up to your interpretation but it still does not prevent you from playing the game without Galaxy or an online connection :)
