nipsen: ..then again, from what we've seen, I don't think modding in factions and ship-ai behaviour, and making all of it act believably in the world would be, well, very hard. Same with adding simple extra parameters to how everything from creatures to ships should develop.
Not saying that Hello Games should offer limited access to the toolchain to build scripts for functionality like that. But you could potentially tweak in populations on some planets, or maybe create evolution of the ecology over time, and things of that sort.
I mean, maybe the devs would want to demonstrate something like that themselves, and possibly update the game with content like this after the release. Add day and night cycle behaviour on particular plants, add gravity effects and tides..? But since apparently everything from critters to mountains are affected by interdependent variables, changing the rules of how the universe works in more limited ways.... could be fun?
Would be great if someone who talk with the devs once in a while could ask about something like that.
There is a youtube vid that shows off the terrain generation system, at the most basic level you just throw in a bunch numbers and bam watch the screen generate planets/stars. All the videos talk more about planetary exploration, there's very little details about what is happening in space or flight to be more exact.
I agree would be nice to get some press on modding in general.
