Anyone know if there's a way to have speeds (they say a speedometer is now available in the Exocraft) show in MPH vs the Metric system?

Also there's supposed to be "planetary coordinates" available in the ships now? I'm probably blind and it's right there in front of me...

(If you've seen this - maybe you can do a short "primer" on how to use it...)

Thanx!!!

Planetary coordinates show up on the pilot's display in place of altitude when flying below 2000. It would be nice to have both. I don't really need to see my player name on the display.

I doubt this very much. Perhaps someone in the modding community could find a way to mod it. Being a Canuck, I'm perfectly comfortable with the metric system (and being old, I'm also comfortable with the imperial system). But I actually just look at 'K' in the display as thousands of units. Everything seems to be measured in units in the game, so I just go with that as the default. So when something pops up, such as a milestone that says "Travelled 50 Ks", I just assume it means 50,000 units. For some reason, in many cases, looking at it as KMs doesn't make sense to me.

Assuming that 1 unit = 1 meter (gauging the average Traveler height to be about 2 m, this is a reasonable swag), then speed in MPH is about twice speed in u/s. For a better approximation, add 10%.

For practical purposes, since exact speed isn't critical, assume that the exocraft all putter along at around 30-35 MPH, or about the speed that most traffic moves on a street posted at 25 MPH. ;-)

Thanx Dash, I finally found the coordinates - had to use the "ALT" key and scroll down... Is your screen really unstable when you do that? Mine is terrible - I should probably check out the mouse sensitivity - what is yours set at?

Hey Terrible,

I hear you!!!

I've not installed any Mod's - I realize they make things better, but trying to keep them "up to date" was such a pain in the ass, when I played WoW, that I swore I'd never do that again (at least until the day comes where it all gets done automatically!!!)

Yeah, it's a pain keeping them up to date. One of the reasons I delayed updating from 1.57 for a long time is I had several mods installed. Now, with my Permadeath run, I have one quality of life mod installed: fast refiners. But it still means I need to wait for the mod creator to update before I can jump from 1.60 to 1.63 I may look into modding myself though and just do my own mod for that).

However, seeing some of the issues with 1.63 (especially the ejection problems and clipping into freighter walls, etc.), I'm fine waiting for a bit anyway.

Makes me wonder if HG keeps an eye on mods and considers incorporating them into the game. I just finished submitting a suggestion that I think would make the game a lot better - When we fight a sentinel - it might not be detroyed - and we could buy, build or find computer chips that would reprogram a them to do ONE of the following:

1) Protect US
2) Recharge Hydroponic Trays
3) Become Pooper Scoopers (Find Coprite...)
4) Be pack mules
5) Take care of refining materials (set up a que of the things we wanrt refined)

There's an endless list of things they could do - and I think we'd appreciate them rather than "dreading" the damn things...

There's an endless list of things they could do
Great ideas.

Number One. They must before anything, protect the physical and graphical laws within their fantasy world. All three sentinel types should not poof next to players, sometimes ontop of him, but instead on the verge of view, outside of range. This poofing business, we should just not be seeing. As it plays out now, their game, the poofing, wallpassing, infinitely armored targetable areas, appears to be amatuer hour. A talents scout's nightmare. Unbalanced, and unfair. Not the kind of code, that marriages well with surviver play.

Number Two. AI. AI. AI. The Quads need to be trained to sit and guard doorways, intimidate with physical clawing and biting. Walker needs a terrain damaging stomp. What the hell is with this orbital strike that happens when the last remnants of armor on walker is blown away. Doh, makes no sense, no frigate even up there in a bombing low orbit. Things are amiss in AI.

Number Three. That multitool shield is misplaced it belongs in pack tech slots, not multitool slots. Get rid of pistols and rifles, stick with just calling it a multitool. Sonic screwdriver, pistols and rifles, belong in other genres, not an evolved sci-fi. Phasers, Blasters, the mechwarrior arsonal, etc.. belong in NMS. Or like OP requested give ability to use their tools against them. Robot handler..

I see profit whoring code. This quicksilver vendor wreaks of microtransactions. NMS is starting to get that ever present rotten smell, that smell these other bait and switch developers produce. The ones who wanna pressure us into buying more.

You know, what really perturbs me tho.. the same Monstrosities, appear, no various types, its the same swarm over and over, it becomes obnoxious. And we cannot scan and catalog um.. dow! Something is broke. Harmless vegetable, we catalog, something gouging and tearing us to pueces, we ignore.
