I was wondering how long it would take before Hello Games started penalising players for playing solely offline as I do.

Most of these game companies hate Players being Offline and constantly encorage being online (for various reasons not all to the Player`s benefit).

I`m already seeing HG beginning to lose the focus of their game to the fanatical Online mob.

I just hope with enough of us complaining they`ll give the SP Offliners everything that should be used in SP .

What I described above is a potential way for those willing to briefly go online to obtain the living ship. Go online, obtain the quest and then play offline.

The steps that were suggested are unnecessary even for Experimental. The only time that an uninstall is needed is when rolling back either from Experimental, reverting to a previous version or another need arises requiring an uninstall such as moving the software to a different drive. I rolled back a couple of times to aid GOG support in troubleshooting the issue with not being able to use the Galaxy Overlay and also to first check what impact the renaming and addition of resources in the NEXT release would have when I first installed NEXT and then rolled back to 1.38. Although I was using Galaxy by then, I simply reinstalled using the offline installers to avoid the extra downloads.

Steps to temporarily switch to online play would be:
1. Backup saves which should be done periodically anyway in case of system crash.
2. Download and install Galaxy.
3. Change Galaxy settings
4. Ensure Galaxy has scanned your system for games obtained through GOG. You might be able to add just NMS to Galaxy.
5. Launch No Man's Sky through Galaxy.
6. Make sure that Multiplayer settings are changed.
7. Travel to Nexus and interact with Quicksilver Bot to obtain Void Egg and play normally either offline or online to complete the quest. Play offline even with Galaxy installed by simply launching the game from the shortcut that would still be on the desktop or via the Start Menu.
8. A player can also do this to obtain the weekend missions - play offline except the one day when obtaining that mission and through completion as exiting the game aborts any open Nexus mission. After reporting back to the Nexus for completion then exit and be free to return to offline.

One can uninstall Galaxy without uninstalling NMS (at least it used to).

Galaxy is written to keep running and closing Galaxy by clinking "X" will leave the program running in the background. If a player does not want this to keep running then close the program by rebooting, clicking the down arrow next to the GOG logo to exit or use task manager. If clicking the down arrow then also use Task Manager to close the GOG Communications Service.

It sounds like a lot of work but it isn't and it also depends upon how high of a priority and interest the Living Ship is.

The above is offered not as a suggestion but as a means to obtain the Living Ship until and unless Hello Games adds this offline should a player desire to obtain this ship without further waiting. Doing this may also permanently add the "missing" Quicksilver items.
I downloaded and tested the 2.32 offline installer.
No change with the void egg.

I do not want to go fully into the discussion about offline vs online and HG's hypothetical reasons for caring less about the offline version. Everyone, including HG, has their personal reasons. And from everyone's individual point of view, those reasons are valid.

So far the workaround with the save editor works fine for me.
Took about 2 minutes, without fiddling with two different installers.

But I got a little more curious.

@alt3rn1ty menttioned that he/she has to flip through several pages before the Artemis and Null decals become visible.
That means there are plenty more items only (officially) available in the online version.

Are all the other items in the Quicksilver shop purely cosmetic?
Are those things mainly blueprints?

EDIT:

I just browsed a little in the save games.
I found found the coloured jetpack trails for example, which I could add to "known products/technology".

So my guess is, that one could manually add all the goodies that are currently missing in the offline version of the Quicksilver shop.

There are no non-cosmetic items in the quicksilver shop, the only exception is the void egg.

Thanks a lot for that information!
Good to know that.

Thanks for confirming what I thought would be the case.

So if you play the Offline installation, with no Galaxy, do not use the savegame editor, and have started a new playthrough which has never seen any online connectivity ..

.. Void Eggs are not currently avaiable for purchase in the Quicksilver store, and so players will never experience any Living ships. Unless there s some other way in game we do not know about to acquire a Void Egg, but I doubt it just now.

@Hellogames please fix this.

-----------------------

Out of curiosity I uninstalled the game and GOG Galaxy, and installed the game from the Offline Installers. Continued my save game (which has seen online connectivity), and as Chewy says once your save game has seen online connectivity you do keep everything in the Quicksilver store .. Void Eggs and everything else so far were purchasable items.

I havent time right now to do a complete restart just to discover what has already been confirmed. But one day when Hellogames have finished updating the game I wish to start a new Survival game. I hope by then we can do everything we should be able to in an offline game installation.
Well, then our offline version has fallen behind, hopefully it will not be left behind. So as long as a fresh save start comes from a online galaxy, the void eggs are good then. This is a really good game so far, I don't want to see it go bad just because of multiplayer.

That's an interesting find.

It means that the offline and the online version are in fact identical, and that the difference lies in the savegame.
Which again means that there must be a simple flag/variable that tells the game if that save has seen ever seen online connectivity.

I'll dig through the saves when I am back from Britain in a few days.
That flag should be possible to find...

Yep I think thats correct, the void egg resources (and everything else) are more than likely in the Offline Installation of the games files, but just cant be accessed by anyone staying offline without GOG Galaxy installed. Thats the whole point of this topic.

Personally I think that means there is a flag per item unlocked in the Quicksilver store

If I were to keep playing my save game which has seen online connectivity, from now without galaxy installed, anything which is unlocked for everyone else who are online in the quicksilver store with community research from this point forward, would not appear in my quicksilver store, because the game needs to be online again to catch up with the latest item additions.

I will not be testing that though, I have gone back to having galaxy installed for the next round of experimental testing .. I think we can expect another one this week now that Hellogames have said they are doing weekly updates.
Hi, I'm a very new No Man's Sky player and I just wanted to add another voice to the 'offline players deserve quicksilver and void eggs' discussion here.

I'm dual booting Linux Mint and Windows 7. Due to my own paranoia (even though I have the windows drive image backed-up) I'm keeping the windows drive offline, so my NMS save game will never connect to the servers. Seeing as how the game is advertised as single-player, not getting quicksilver missions, the cosmetic goodies, and (especially) living ships is a real disappointment.

I'm otherwise liking the game so I hope this is something HG will fix soon themselves, because offline players shouldn't have to do save editing to play the same game as online players.
is it still impossible to play the "living ship"-questline if you play offline without GOG Galaxy?

I'm not sure personally, I sent in a report to the zendesk, but there have been two patches since with no mention of it or any response (though no response and not getting old bugs fixed is not unusual these days).

I'm thinking to uninstall along with getting rid of GOG Galaxy, make a backup of my saves, start a new game completely, and work towards seeing if those Space Encounter void eggs would actually give a Void egg instead of living ship upgrades if you dont have a living ship and dont have a Void egg in your inventory. That to me sounds like a possibility. It may just be something offline players have not ventured enough to see if there is another way to get a Void Egg without them being available in the Quicksilver store.

But then .. The Living Ships Update only mentions that you start the mission from the Anomaly ..
Quote
Players who wish to incubate, grow and ultimately fly their own living ship should visit the Space Anomaly and follow the call of the Void Egg.
UnQuote
.. Which can only mean the Quicksilver store and buying a Void egg there.

I cant see Hellogames supporting the community / weekend events forever, so I would like to think even if offline players cant get the Void egg anywhere now, will Hellogames eventually unlock all Quicksilver items for everyone .. Who knows. It seems a bit mean though to exclude offline GOG players from enjoying the whole point of the living ships update.

I wonder if @norsk has installed the new offline files 2.33 patch and tried any similar ideas?

maybe you can tell us here if that works when you find out.

I found that you can use the Save Editor to unlock the quicksilver items in an offline game, so that you have the posabillity to buy a void egg there, too. But you can't get very much quicksilver if you can't play daily / weekly quests.

:) If I try it I will certainly report back, but just the thought of having to go through all of that only to realise what I am pretty sure is the case .. Is kind of putting me off, but I guess someone needs to do it. Will see if I can muster the enthusiasm to go through a start from scratch offline run. The other snag is currently I am beta testing Egosofts X4 Foundations, which needs GOG Galaxy to get the experimental updates, to solve a CTD issue I have been working with Egosoft to try and resolve with them. So until that is resolved, I need to keep trying their updates before I can fully uninstall GOG Galaxy = At the rate they have been going I dont currently know how long it will be before they fix the issue (a fix was promised on their tracker for X4 v3 Beta 5 or 6, we are now at Beta 8 and its still not fixed).

I dont like the idea of any of us needing to use a save editor though to get something we ought to be able to without it.

me neither, but at least its a workaround for now.
