Johntodd: OK, I built a small base and structure there. Here are my observations:
1. I could place a BC almost anywhere, but could not claim a site.
2. Where my BC is was as close as I could get it and be able to claim a site for a base.
3. The long wooden road I built back to your road is crappy, but only temporary.
4. I built it to show what we are up against in terms of angles and elevations.
How can we make stuff line up vertically and horizontally?
I'll take all that out if you want me to.

rostfreyh: Hey John, unfortunately I can't see your base... :( Did you upload to the servers?
Without seeing it I'm not sure what you mean with terms of 'angels and elevations' and 'making stuff line up vertically and horizontally' ... You mean your stuff isn't at the same level as mine? Isn't your base near enough that you can start building approximately at the end of my 'roads'?
With terrain manipulator it should be possible to choose the altitude of the first parts. But it should also be possible to build a ramp to overcome elevation difference.
And last but not least it doesn't have to be exactly in line, does it?
I DID upload it.
The problem is placing the BC and then the first base part. There is no way to properly "survey" the terrain to get a proper angle and elevation. That's what we call in it the US. You guys have names for it too, since constructing any building IRL requires these things.
EDIT:
OK, I went and checked. I uploaded again to be sure.
Also I am east of your base (or is it west?)
Problem:
I cannot connect directly to your roadway unless I have placed a BC.
I cannot place a BC anywhere close to your base, so I must venture a long ways away.
Hence, the angles and directions are screwed up a bit because it's impossible to keep a straight line in this game.
Thoughts?
