Hi guys
I installed the gog-3 thingy and it seems to have fixed some tearings I was experiencing.
But still no option to change my name from Explorer to something else.
At least I can't find any.

Too soon.

The Devs are simply rushing out fixes right now. Allowing name change is likely last on their to-do. I want it too, but I doubt they`ll implement before patch 5 or 6, if ever.

Ok thx, I only thought it was fixed and I had done something wrong:
I hadn't uninstalled the game prior to installing the new version.
I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but just FYI, I think if you use gog galaxy your in game name will be your gog user name.
I wonder if Galaxy is used...will it update all of your past discoveries with the GoG Galaxy name?

I asked about this the other day, and about the Galaxy Achievements, but I don't think it will and I'm ok with that.
Unlike interviews where I remember something to the affect that if you play offline, when you eventually go online all of your discoveries will be uploaded, if you play without Galaxy installed you will always be offline and named Explorer.
Until either HG or GoG comes out with a statement or patch fix that specifically says it'll back-update your discoveries that were named Explorer to either your GoG account name (or even better allow you to pick your own name in-game), and that the previously acquired in-game Journey Milestones will also be back-uploaded to Galaxy achievements, I will assume NO on both accounts.

It does. It takes a little time to do it. I had a system, planet, and waypoints discovered as "Explorer" that after playing ~15-20 minutes on Galaxy were credited to me.

Really? They were old discoveries and not done after running Galaxy?
I will test again then. Possibly something added in the last 2 patches.

Yea, they were discoveries made before I downloaded Galaxy. I dl'd Galaxy explicitly because I wanted my discoveries shared, and it picked up my old ones. There weren't very many of them, and I was still on the planet and in the system if that makes a difference.
the last couple of times i forgot to launch Galaxy before launching NMS, but i noticed it still kept using my username and thankfully didn't revert back to 'explorer' again
Logging with Galaxy solved the "Explorer" thing for me.

Hmm, well I installed Galaxy and have played over 4 hours in game, but all my old discoveries are still Explorer.
Not completely sure, but think they generate the data for the discoveries in the user-folder. And tag the new ones with the user-string at the time. So would make sense if the waiting discoveries still say "explorer", and the new ones discovered after using galaxy would be different.

And saw that someone found out how to unpack and pack that user-data (that the discovery generation depends on). So you could probably find the user-string and change it there. Or.. potentially screw up the prepared discovery files to circumvent the profanity filter. But don't do that.

Then again, there are these functions for fetching the user-name in "ninja_x64_release.dll" in the binary folder. So maybe it's possible to let that routine fetch something else from galaxy. Which, for all we know, is a routine that runs every time you start the game.

But you probably shouldn't do this either, because it's highly illegal and may result in very high fines to tamper with someone else's program.

So do it with someone else's id instead.

Which.. I suppose would defeat the purpose of this a little bit. Sorry, bad advice.
