Red_Eagle_LXIX: So your entire argument and level of proof is you throwing insults. Whereas I can link actual statements that give clear indications that multiplayer was described such as players attacking other players (which you somehow think is not multiplayer). Perhaps you would like to explain how one player attacking another player is not multiplayer so we might better understand your reality.

You were the one who said there were no claims that could be considered as that mutliplayer was feature.

Can you actually provide any proof of any of your claims (like you were asked for already)? I've provided my proofs, which you've been unable to dispute. You've yet to provide anything backing your claims (as was expected and even predicted).

Of course you don't care about any of the lies as you can't defend against any of them. Your lack of rationality has one player attacking another player as something other than multiplayer. You make many claims but fail to provide any proofs. Thanks for showing your colors, you have nothing to back your claims so resort to insults.

Try harder. Not bothering with you again until you can actually back some of your claims or give a detailed explanation on how one player attacking another player is not multiplayer and what you instead define as multiplayer.
avatar
chaosWyrM: are you joking?

pay attention ill write it slowly for you.

saying a feature MAY be in the game is not a promise of that feature.

telling everyone over and over that you will almost certainly never meet another player is plenty of proof that there is no multiplayer...i mean come on...how do you not understand that?

they told us....like 1000 times that the likelihood of ever seeing another player was next to nothing. why the F**K would they spend time a resources developing systems they thought would never get used? how does that make any sense?

i really dont know what other "proof" you need besides the fact that they told us over and over that we would almost certainly never even meet another player....or are you claiming they didnt say that?

i mean...i can tell you..."hey....ill give you a million dollars if you can hit a bulls eye on a dart board from a mile away" that doesnt mean i told you i would give you a million dollars.

if you were naive enough to only listen to the parts you wanted to hear...and ignored all the other things that were telling you those things werent going to happen...thats on you. maybe try to have a little perspective and use some critical thinking next time.

did they say player interaction was in the game? NO they said it MIGHT be in the game.

did they then go on to explain that you would never see another player? YES

do the math.

there was never going to be any multiplayer in this game.

and as far as the other things...i already told you...the reason i dont care about them is because thats not what im talking about. im specifically talking about the ridiculous notion that there was supposed to be multiplayer in this game when there wasnt ever....and my opinion that anyone who complains about multiplayer looses the right to complain about anything else.

i never said there were promised features that arent in the game...i said i wont listen to anyone who complains about multiplayer...because that was never promised.

and i dont have to try harder for anything...im not the one who didnt understand what this game was and is now crying about it. i have already backed my claims up. they freaking told us we would never meet other players...they told us that over and over and over and over and over. its not my fault you didnt listen.

i mean...you do understand that you cant have multiplayer in a game where youll never see other players right? or is that somehow confusing to you?
You really are ignoring the words as a sentence.

You have provided no proof for any of your claims which all require you take add and remove words from what was said to fit your reality.

No where does that sentence say anything about if we add or not to the game. It says it is possible to run into another player and if you do they may attack you. By definition that is multiplayer. you have not provided an alternate definition for multiplayer. Nor have you supported your claims without either adding that they were talking about "if they decide to code for it" or just completely ignore the context of the sentences.

Please show any statement that says it is not possible to see other players. I'll give you a hint, I can link Sean Murray saying that it is possible (although extremely rare as he always did). Never has it been said it was impossible. Never has it been said that the chances are rare because they might not code multiplayer. Many times it is said the chances are rare because of the size of the game.
Like this example (there are MANY more):

Colbert: Do we ever get to see ourselves?

Murray: No. You don’t see yourself, so the only way to know what you look like is for somebody else to, you know, to see you.

Colbert: Can you run into other people, other players in the game?

Murray: Yes, but the chances of that are incredibly rare, just because of the size of what we’re building.
Of course now I've added even more proof you are wrong, and you've added nothing to this conversation but your unsubstantiated claims and the insults you've thrown.

lol....lets run through this shall we?

you thought there was multiplayer.

i KNEW there wasnt.

which one of us was right?

how is it possible that i knew there was no multiplayer if they never told us that?

you can claim all day till youre blue in the face that sean murray said this or some promo blurb said that. and i can say all day till im blue in the face that if you had paid attention to ALL the things being said and not just the things you liked...that you would have known there was no multiplayer...and in the end only one of us can be right...and since there is no multiplayer...that someone is me.

there was never any promise of multiplayer. end of story.

And now you are wrong for a third time. When did I ever say I thought there was multiplayer? Sorry, you fail with that strawman which is of course just a way to try and divert from the fact you were wrong and made a bunch of incorrect and unsubstantiated claims while throwing insults.

You were wrong when you said it was never stated or implied the game had multiplayer (shown by a quote about players attacking other players).
You were wrong when you stated they said it was impossible for player's to see each other (shown by a quote about seeing other players).
You were wrong with your claim I ever thought the game was multiplayer (shown by my post history here and on Steam).

So what were you right about again?

So what were you right about again?
ha!

ok so you didnt think there was multiplayer?

you just proved my point for me...thank you.

and also i dont think you quite understand what a straw man argument is.

anyway:

" You were wrong when you said it was never stated or implied the game had multiplayer (shown by a quote about players attacking other players)."

i already showed you that that claim was never made...it had caveats and qualifiers all in it...sooooo...not an actual claim.

" You were wrong when you stated they said it was impossible for player's to see each other (shown by a quote about seeing other players)."

learn to read...i never said they said it was impossible for players to see each other...what i said was that they said that players MIGHT be able to see each other if they were ever to meet...which would never actually happen. follow the dots man.

"You were wrong with your claim I ever thought the game was multiplayer (shown by my post history here and on Steam)."

i didnt make that claim...that is the position you were arguing from. im not a mind reader. if you didnt think that then what the hell are you talking about????

and if you didnt think that...why not?...if, as you claim, multiplayer was promised...why didnt you think it was in the game?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????

ill tell you why...because it wasnt promised, and they said it wasnt a multiplayer game.
The PR for the game was frustratingly vague and often contradictory. Because of that, two reasonable people can come up with totally different interpretations. I'm not sure there's very much to be gained by arguing over whose interpretation is the correct one.

there isnt anything to be gained at all...and im not arguing that...since MY interpretation was in fact the correct one, there isnt anything to argue about.

i mean we can all agree that there is no multiplayer in the game right? were pretty solid on that fact?

seems odd then that i knew before i bought the game that it wasnt a multiplayer game...if there were all these claims and promises that it was a multiplayer game. how on earth did i know that? i must by psychic or something.

I like how your reality makes it easy for you to dismiss everything without ever proving anything you claim.

Please paraphrase the following statements as I would like to know how they look in your reality:
1).

"And as they go, they're upgrading their ship, they're upgrading their weapons, they're upgrading their suit. And they need to do that because they're very vulnerable, they will be attacked by AI, potentially - very rarely - other players, things like that, if they cross paths with them. There's space combat, there's combat on the ground, there's trading if you want to do that, mining resources and stuff, there's exploring if you want to do that. "
2).

Murray: No. You don’t see yourself, so the only way to know what you look like is for somebody else to, you know, to see you.
3).

Murray: Yes, but the chances of that are incredibly rare, just because of the size of what we’re building.
A person can recognize a lie without believing the lie.

Also, can you please provide any links, or quotes for the many times you've said that they said it was impossible for players to see each other? So far you've claimed it but not shown it once. That is not proof of anything no matter how many times you may claim you have proved something; without evidence it is just you making wild claims.

You also still haven't addressed other issues, but as you said that is because you're just being dismissive. Knowing full well any talk of the false advertising of this product will mention multiplayer. Thus conveniently allowing you to dismiss all other issues. Thus showing something. Just like you've dismissed the above quotes by adding your own additional statements to them.

what a load of bs.

now your claim is that you somehow recognized a lie...with no clues or reasons? you just happened to see all these claims and promises of multiplayer and somehow knew...for no reason whatsoever that they were lies...because you have special lie detecting powers???

that is your claim now? i just want to make sure i got this straight.

because EITHER thats what happened...OR something tipped you off that there wasnt any multiplayer.

"I like how your reality makes it easy for you to dismiss everything without ever proving anything you claim. "

and i like how in your reality you get to cherry pick what people say to fit your confirmation bias...must be nice.
im not the one making the claim. the claim is that multiplayer was promised. i say it wasnt. again...since there is no multiplayer...and i was aware of that beforehand so the evidence is in my favor.

do you see it? i didnt add anything to that. the caveats and qualifiers? they were everywhere. do you understand the words?

look man....imma try to explain this to you one more time as simply as i can. they NEVER said there was multiplayer in this game. they said there MIGHT be some kinds of very limited player interaction....MIGHT be....IF you were to meet another player....and even if there was player interaction...the chances of it happening were next to nil because you wont ever see another player.

if i told you that i made you a ham and swiss sandwich and if you ate it....you MIGHT be able to fly...but only IF you turned into a bird....and the likelihood that you would turn into a bird was "incredibly rare" (by the way....0% qualifies as incredibly rare)....are you going to say that i told you that my ham and swiss sandwich would make you fly?

get a grip.

ill say this one last time and im done with this nonsense.

there is in fact no multiplayer....i already knew that before i bought the game (on preorder...not after it came out). so how did i know and other people didnt?

i never said there werent broken promises. i never said that there werent features missing from the game that they showed us in the promos. i never said anything even like that. what i said was....IF you are complaining about multiplayer....THEN im not listening to you.

its an if/then statement....i never even made a comment about my thoughts of betrayal or of hello games broken promises AT ALL. you sir...need a refresher in reading comprehension.

You really have a problem following conversations don't you?
I already detailed how I knew Sean was lying if you were actually reading and used some reading comprehension. This failure explains a lot about your reading and your responses.
avatar
Red_Eagle_LXIX: The only solid single player claim is the descriptor on the store page marking as single player.
Wow, now you are denying the reality of your own words:
Here is you admitting to being dismissive if anyone mentions Multiplayer:
avatar
chaosWyrM: i automatically discount anyone who bitches about the lack of multiplayer.
Here are some of the multiple times you claimed that Multiplayer was never implied, mentioned, or even suggested. To which I have given responses proving these statements are wrong.
avatar
chaosWyrM: not only was it never about the multiplayer...but multiplayer was never even suggested as being part of the game at all.

at the very MOST it was suggested that it was possible to meet other players. just meet them...not interact, not do any kind of co-op play, not trade with...just meet, and even then it was made clear that the possibility of that was so minute as to make it effectively not possible at all.

how anyone could interpret that as "multiplayer" is beyond me.
avatar
chaosWyrM: even in your own example it says "if" and "very rare".

that is not multiplayer. anyone who thought this game was multiplayer is either stupid or absolutely didnt do any research into what the game was.

it was made very VERY clear that there was no multiplayer in this game. you know how i know? because i bought it. i HATE multiplayer games and id never have got this game if i thought there was even the slightest chance there was multiplayer in it.

you can site as many off handed vague suggestions about the faint possibility of player interaction as you like...for every one of those you post i can find 3 where they said you would never see another player.

at no time was real multiplayer implied or suggested...and it certainly wasnt ever promised.
avatar
chaosWyrM: you have a very twisted notion of what "multiplayer" is if you think any of those vague claims of limited player interaction, that were all followed by massive amounts of qualifiers and caveats saying it was virtually impossible to happen were some kind of promise of multiplayer. i mean you have to be seriously delusional to have ever for a second thought this game had multiplayer in it.

as to your mention of any other claims....i dont care. im talking about the ridiculous and outright stupid complaint of lack of multiplayer. NO ONE EVER SAID IT WAS A MULTIPLAYER GAME...not ever.

the bottom line is that there was no claim of multiplayer. it wasnt promised or implied....anyone complaining about the lack of multiplayer automatically gets put into the "dont bother listening to them, they just like to bitch about stuff" category.

of all the things one could pick as features left out of the game...for someone to yammer on about multiplayer just shows they dont know what they are talking about at all.
Some packages were even made as multiplayer and stickers replaced the rating and designation on the packaging. However, it was never described as Multiplayer in your world. Just the developer describes seeing other people, and being attacked by others, some PS4 pre-order store display packaging had to have the Multiplayer designation covered, and even the retail labels on the EU PS4 packaging had to have the rating and Multiplayer designation covered with the new rating and singleplayer designation.

You have been dismissive of any other lie because you've decided anyone who mentions the Multiplayer lies should be dismissed instead of engaging in rational conversation.

You've been asked multiple times to cite your sources and have not once cited your sources.

You have been asked multiple times how being attacked by other players is not a description of multiplayer (since you said it was never even implied to be multiplayer).

You are now even disavowing your own writings. As such it is quite clear what you are and what you are doing to within one of 2 or 3 possibilities.

Yes, I feel betrayed by Hello Games. I feel they are changing their promises, after the point of sale. Its games like this I had to refund oodles of times, in the past. When I worked for Babbages, an EB, Gamespot-like retail store. To a small degree I also feel betrayed by GOG, for carrying this product and making patches so difficult to apply, ie revision nimbers not in sequence. Do I think my $60 was well spent? No. What price should have this PC version cost me, in my zip code? A high of $40. Will I ever buy from them again? Yes. Do I think Sean Murray, himself, embarrassed all English speaking countries and the residents their in, the English people? Yes, he should live out rest of life under a rock, or appologize to his clients. Does he need to be censored for fraudulent claims in future press rooms? Yes. Am I enjoying NMS? Patched Raw game? No. Patched fan modded game? Yes. Will I buy DLC? No. Do I find NMS in anyway educational from a science perspective? No, it actually is misleading and comical. Would I recommend it to my friends? No, I would certainly not admit to having purchased No Mans Sky in casual discord or in goo-goo baby babble. I am embarrassed to be here, constantly being abused by fanboys, for asking gameplay questions, which Hello Games should have already answered for me in its manual. No manual was supplied in my $60 purchase. Important note: I get hardbound manuals here with the purchase of a $10 flashdrive from Staples.
Sometimes it is a good idea to understand you bought a game. It's just a game, not life saving drugs or anything actually important. If you can't afford risking £40 when buying a game (or say going to see a movie that ends up being rubbish), you should just stop buying games (or going to the movies) until a few months after releases when you can have all the information and critical reviews you need.

Still NMS is just a game, it is just a throw away £40 (if you do not like it) that would have been the same cost as a fairly tame night out with a few friends. It's £40, nothing more, and if for example you are like myself and really enjoy the game, it is not a problem.

I agree with Red_Eagle_LXIX, Hello Games advertised features that are not implemented in the current game. It has been said "You can see other players when you meet them and you can attack them / can be attacked by them". Whatever this might be called, it's not in the game AFAIK. There're other missing features, discussed in other threads.

I preordered the game and I'm disappointed, will not preorder any more games, will wait for reviews - lesson learned.

pavo
Had a dream last night that I was playing NMS, but it was like NMS 1000X better.

I was exploring a planet, leaving my ship behind, marvelling at this amazng world (seriously it was so damn real) and came across this huge Tyranosaurus Rex type creature that was real close. It saw me staring at it from behind an arch like stone formation and with a roar like out of jurrrasic park, it came for me, shaking the ground as it stomped at me.

I dodged under and around the stone structure. It couldn`t get at me that way so turned and went round the other way. I was way too far from my ship to run it and knew I was screwed!

Then I woke up.

Damn, I guess when Humans let you down, the brain makes up for it in a dream! I`m inspired to do a picture of the dinosaur scene it was so amazing! :P

At one time I was chased by a t-rex looking critter ingame, and I too was quite far from ship. It was the first hostile creature I had yet to see in the game and I used the jet pack to get to a little cave opening a ways up a cliff side near. I found myself thinking of Holly Marshal alone in a similar situation and all by herself using the "flyswatter" to make the grumpy-saurus go away. For a first time predator encounter I can say I needed a place to get a clean space suit.

But to answer the question, yes I do still feel a little betrayed, especially when I hear of a upcoming patch that offers more content but so far said content does not sound like it repairs their reputation of giving the features they promised. To build a base as is said will be added in this patch sounds like another half truth unless they have changed navigation between star systems tremendously, or intend to make the feature only usable from a online viewpoint.
No point in arguing with fanboys. You may as well argue with a religious zealot about god.
It doesn't matter. The vast majority of us know full well what was said by sean murray about meeting other players in game.

Whether or not that was a lie, or a claim that didn't make it to release, who knows.

I suspect a lie, as I suspect the case of flying to any star was also a lie. It is known that the stars (and the sun) are just wallpaper for the current system. This is a pretty basic part of the design of the game, and I cant see how making those stars "individual suns" is ever going to happen without a complete redesign of the game. Sean murray knew this, yet waffled on about flying to other suns without warp.

Just a ploy to sell more copies, and Sean Murray does the "crazy enigmatic developer" act very well.

That said, another patch or two like the recent one, and I might consider they have earned the $60 I paid for the game and forgive them.
