Since launch the game hans't given me any stability issues. With the new update pressing C causes the game to crash for me.

Is this unique to me? I've updated my Nvidia drivers, still no luck crashes every time.

Scanning works okay for me, both on foot and from the ship, so I have no specific fixes in hand.

One always suspects a video-related issue with things like this. The usual attempts at correction include checking your in-game and Nvidia-specific settings as well as, perhaps, clearing out your shader cache just in case there's some lingering incompatibility. There are some new scan markers in the latest update (including some whopping big white ones that are kind of annoying) and it may be that one of those plus old cache data is glitching.

Thanks for the assist, how do you clear the shader cache?

I'm going to try to uninstall and do a clean 1.31 install to see if that addresses the issue.
Reinstalling doesn't change the behaviour, pressing C kills the game instantly no error screen just completely out of the game. Reminds me of the quick exit from an application when you ALT + F4.

Your installation path will be different (my system is kind of screwy (rather like me)) but look in your GOG Games folder for some thing like: J:\GOG Games\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\SHADERCACHE. You can just rename SHADERCACHE to SHADERCACHE.bak and make a new, empty directory. I"m pretty sure NMS will recreate the directory, as well as populate the cache, but I'm just in the habit of giving it the directory as a starting point.

It's never a problem, AFAIK, to scrub the cache. It will always be rebuilt if not found; just takes a little longer on the first startup after clearing it. Recommended when making significant changes to video or a new vid driver.
Hi,

I've the same problem, that scanning will crash the game.
Apparently it is planet related, so on some planets scanning works fine and on others not.

I've done some research over the last days and there are others with the same problem.
Rumors says, that it might have to do with the broken HyperThreading on KabyLake Intel processors.

So if you own a 7700k it might be where the problem comes from.
For some people, disabling hyperthreading in the bios seems to fix the issue.
For me this workaround did not solve the crashes.

So far I don't know of any working fix.

On a happier note </sarcasm> you may not be missing that much by not being able to scan from the ship.

Since 1.3x landed, I've spent far too long flying over terrain while scanning for a point of interest and had null results. I've gotten visuals on encampments, storage silos, exosuit lockers, etc by flying slowly enough to spot them and STILL didn't get an icon from the ship's scanner.
So, apparently patch 1.33 seems to fix the issue, at least for me.
Hyperthreading is on and so far everything seems to work as intended.
I didn't have the time to test it in extensively yet, but the few tests I've done work all without crash.

@edit: after a few more tries I'm afraid the patch was not the hoped for solution
Although, I could narrow down the problem. The game always crashes when I use the scanner near a certain location.
I'm not sure what exactly is causing the crash, but when I'm on the same planet but couple of miles away, the scanner works fine.
Unfortunately, this makes the game almost unplayable. Because every time you wander around exploring you have to expect to crash the game and loose all your progress.

Stopped playing because of the Crash issue, clearing the Cache didn't help.

I can confirm that the latest updates have fixed the issue, game is working fine again.

I can also confirm I have a KabyLake processor, so DanielSchoell was probably right.
