ChewyWeAreNotHome: Correct with some exception if you disable Internet access at the right time you can minimize the amount of clutter from
the idiots. 100% of why i won't play games i like on-line, other people destroy their value (to me) most of the time.
Toccatta: And I can confirm that this works as far as v2.24. However, the next major update (living ship) is almost entirely non-functional unless you are either online or hack your save to give yourself materials that you can normally only get if you're online. And even at version 2.24, there are things in the single-player game which do not function if you're offline.
One simple example is a quest you get from a stranded NPC that requires you to set up a message bouy. However, the game refuses to allow you to build one unless you're online.
To be honest, this game needs to be listed as requiring a full-time internet connection in order to run properly, The line on the store page which reads "
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play." was true at one time, but some of the single-player functions that used to be accessed through Nada and Polo have been transferred to other NPCs in the nexus, and they no longer function correctly if you're NOT online. I'm hoping this is the result of an unresolved bug that Hello Games intends to eventually fix... but they seem to have thrown their offline players under the bus, particularly considering almost an entire update (living ships) is devoted to material that we cannot access without online access or manually editing the save game.
Clearly, an online connection IS required to access all of the game functions, even when NOT intending to play multiplayer or share your bases or discoveries. Is it even legal to advertise it as not requiring an online connection if you can only play a "gimped" version of the game without one?
Thank you so much for this post. I had put NMS down for the last year or so, waiting for QoL improvements etc, and so stopped at Pathfinder. I had been thinking about starting up again BUT it is 100% reliant on not having Multiplayer destroy my game.
So i would be good as far as Synthesis (2.27 is the last update for that)?
Here is the list of NMS updates so far:
https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Patch_notes#Update_1.30_.28Atlas_Rises.29 Edit: this is probably all academic anyway as you are forced to buy/download the current latest version from GOG :(
I might be stuck at Pathfinder until Hello Games decide to focus back on the single player gamers (and fix the game for them etc).
