wizisi2k: 3.5? you're off-it's downloading 3.8 GB here. What changed so dang much?

dashiichi: 3.8 GB here too ... except that, for reasons only known to the gnomes, it didn't take. It's now downloading. The. Whole. Thing. Again. Oh, did I mention that this is over a dog-slow ADSL line? ::sigh::
Yup me too. This afternoon 3.5GB download, now this evening the 3.8GB download others mentioned! Sigh.... :(

Happy, happy, joy, joy. Not.

Another 3.8 GB downloaded and the version stamp still shows as 1.23(A). WTF, over?
this is what I got from looking at steam discussions. this was edited on the 24th:
Soon we’ll be releasing a patch to the experimental branch. Here are the patch notes:

Fix for issue on upgrading save which can cause player bases to disappear
Fixed soft lock when cancelling the profanity filter popup in the base upload screen
Fixed a freeze that could happen when in your ship
Improved and smoother frame rate when playing with unlocked frame rate or vsync disabled
Fixed a rare crash
Various optimisations

Perhaps THIS is why it downloaded the full game again.

Right, but why still marked 1.23(A)? This is somewhat confusing even given the way GOG usually does their manual updates. Is there going to be a v1.24 or is it already there marked as v1.23(A)?
The manual download says v1.23, but the changelog says v1.23(A). My understanding (I can be a simpleton sometimes) is that is for the galaxy version and the manual one is still on v1.23?

Here as well; 3.5 GB --> 1.24(A). Finally!

What may have happened is that the file hash / time-stamp values were set to check for the 1.24 patch but the package pointer itself was still set for 1.23(A). An update event would be triggered but the result for the end user would be a download and reinstallation of 1.23(A). Run a Verify/Repair test, the check would fail, and then would trigger another D/L of the same deprecated files.

So, UK_John had it right all along! ;-)

I wish you were right about me - but another 3.8gb download this evening......... Same code probably - just 3 times to be sure. Or advertising for Galaxy is as truthful as Hello was..... (!)

It may be worth setting it to update manually for the time being.

Patch 1.24 (March 27, 2017):

Greetings explorers,

Today we’re releasing Patch 1.24, which addresses some remaining issues and bugs players have reported since the launch of the Path Finder Update. This update is live now on both PC and PS4, and the patch notes are as follows:

- Fixed an issue that caused player’s bases not to appear
- Optimised light shafts, allowing us to enable them on PS4
- Fixed a game freeze/lock up that could occur when in space
- Improved frame rate when playing with unlocked frame rate, or vsync disabled
- Fixed some issues with Steam controller prompts
- Various minor performance optimisations
- Fixed some rare crashes & freezes

Thanks to everyone who has been playing and providing feedback/bug reports! If you continue to experience issues, you can report them via our Help Centre: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/

Hello Games
Down loaded the files labelled as No Man's Sky 1.24 (A) and installed them. I hadn't downloaded or installed the prior Pathfinder updates. Unfortunately the game won't even start now. The late 2016 Foundation update worked just fine. No error messages or anything, the screen briefly turns black then returns to the previous view.

I'd recommend contacting Support to find out whether the updates are standalone or are cumulative. It may be that you must first install the 1.2 Pathfinder update and then 1.24 -- or even each of the intervening updates, 1.22, 1.23, and then 1.24. It's not well documented.

I got these files via the GOG Downloader, then I un-installed the game and made a fresh install. No problem to continue with my savegames then. Also the 1.24 is perfectly stable as for now (I had no crashes anymore, all bug fixes work fine for me).

Try doing the same, completly un-install your game before re-installing the new files, also erase all shader cache files in the savegame folder (cache folder).

Thanks dashiichi I did make contact with support.

XenonS - probably good advice. I just did an overwrite install rather than a fresh install - mainly because the previous updates seemed to work no problem that way. Prior to the install I made a backup of my No Man's Sky user files. Will do as you suggest.

Sorry to both of you for not responding earlier I have limited internet access when I'm at home.

I missed to say this above: if you use mods, then I advice you to add them one by one only, just to see if they work as intended. Mods may spell trouble if they are not updated for Pathfinder.
Again, good advice XenonS. I have a policy of not using mods in general with one exception, SimCity 4 - lots of very useful things available there.

I did the complete uninstall and reinstall of No Man's Sky - it works! Thanks, now to wipe the egg off my face! Next job is to figure out how to do all those new things that are supposed to be available.....
