So here is the situation: I have been going after ship wrecks for a couple of hours to max out the ship inventory to 48 slots. So far so good.
Since I maxed out the ship inventory, I am now looking to find a ship, the looks of which I really like. Thing is, when I was going through my mid 30s (in terms of slots), I had a ship that looked a bit like the one on the landing platform here:

Now that I have my 48 slots. I'd really like to have a sleek fighter like this again but I have been through about a dozen ship wrecks on multiple planets in multiple systems so far and all I seem to find are ugly bulky freighter like vessels.
So here is my question: Does anybody know if there are certain ship models/types that are limited to a certain number /range of inventory slots? Read: will you only get those fighters if they have, say 33 - 37 slots?

That would be a bummer but I get the impression that I simply can't get my sleek nice ship. Or is the procedural algorithm just trolling me. :)

EDIT: Oh crap, typo in the thread title and no way to edit it. :(

I'd like to know this too. Currently my ship has 24 slots and my suit 35 lol.
All ships are "randomly" generated each time you enter a new star system and every ship can have 48 slots. Keep in mind that once you enter a system, only some kind of ship will be available in that sytem so if needed, jump to another one.

I grinded 48 slot by searching for crashed ships and now I have one fighter with 48 slots (after a lot of time searching for the one with a skin I like).

Be sure that you will find the one you want ;)

Awesome! Thanks mate! Looks like I will get my fighter eventually. Off to the next transmission tower I go.

I have an ugly bulky freighter too, but had the most slots and fights surprisingly well in space. Technically, the shape of your ship shouldn`t matter in space or affect fighting performance anyway. But I would like something better looking.

Also, I`d love to be able to name my ship instead of the random crap I`m stuck with.

Yea, it's purely about aesthetics. I want my ship to be fabulous!

Naming it would be great. Right now, I feel like Jack O'Neill from Stargate:

You can use the save Decrypt/Encrypt tool to change the look of your ship.
The decrypted files are just JSON files you can use a decent text editor to modify.

Here is a user who has already done so:

My trouble with ships:

ALL of them follow the same stearing model/performance. There is no distinction between a fighter or a trader vessel.

If you empty your ship (well, almost) at a trader, it will not go faster, it still maneuvers like you are swimming in oil/tar - there is no difference between a loaded up ship and an empty one - nothing of that sort.

Announced by HG had been a very much different situation.
@Red_Eagle_LXIX: Thanks. Very useful info, though I think I'll keep trying to find a nice one in the game itself. IMO it's part of the fun to gamble for better ships and it gives a decent excuse to explore more planets. :)

Still, good to know in case I get frustrated.

Agreed! This annoys me as well, especially because things like turning speed, etc. shouldn't be that difficult to modify by ship class.
But there needs to be more changed in space anyway. Right now, it doesn't matter if your ship is good or not and different classes with different abilities wouldn't matter either because space combat is a joke in general.

My 48slot fighter... (they do exist)

And here is what I found, both are 48 slots.
Left is my old one and right is my new one (it's hard to find a ship with 48 slots that has a nice design without ugly color :D)
