Which version do you think is better? I'm happy to support GOG, but when I saw the Steam Workshop thing from the last update I felt a little worried that I wasted money on the gog version..

I personally think there should be a way to get workshop items even over here, and what about visiting other peoples bases? There is just too many unanswered questions this new update creates...

Oh, btw... I did reach the center of the Galaxy, I'm in the Hilbert Dimension now, and I unlocked both achievements for Survival & Permadeath! I have to be the first at least in Permadeath mode anyways...

The base building was Glitched pretty bad, I had ALL stations built, but Could Not for the life of me hire a Scientist.. So I decided to go to the next galaxy.. I had it... 3 different bases and all 3 had the same glitch... wow...

Well, I think there is no doubt that new Pathfinder updated has added a lot of things for better playability, so it's surely better than the Foundation. Base stuff to build has almost doubled + new vehicles + new interesting ship aquiring system.

I feel however that the game is now less stable. There is an annoying CTD when you fight sentinels at level 4-5, I never had CTDs since december (just one). I'm playing with default grafics (medium) plus I changed FOW to 100.

AFAIK there is a patch in progress right now which will allow the spawning of Exocraft vehicles on all planets, not just the home planet. I hope they will also fix the CTDs...

I still have the Foundation files, but I bet I'm not going to reload them except if I get too many CTDs...

If they're going to include the exocraft vehicles on all planets then I hope (ha!) that there will be some better way of navigating over the planet's surface. At a *mininum* the minimap "direction finder" should at least indicate true heading.

It would be super if there was also some type of planetary grid system (lat/lon, UTM, whatever) rather than just the current SWAG (stupid wild-ass guess) method.

And then there's the issue of the 3rd-person point-of-view and different keyboard/mouse controls as compared to the walking/shipboard control.

And the "crash through massive boulders without scratching the paint" problem...

A major flaw IMO in the Pathfinder are the new crashed ships implementation (see my post "Crashed ships are now completly useless"), they need to make changes because the whole game part of Transmission Towers, Antena Beacons which both lead to crashed ships have become useless at the current state - it's simply never worth switiching to one of these crushed ships, not even after a game start where you already have put so many work in your current ship !

What I really like is the new Photo Mode, I use it to compensate the somehwat poor low flight capability to check my surroundings. But still there is no direct Screenshot button ?? The left mouse click doesn't take a screenshot, I have found no images on my rig.

Look in C:\Users\Your_Login_Here\Pictures\No Mans Sky. There's probably a setting in an XML file, somewhere, to change the default.

It is off course down to personal choice. I choose to not use Steam about a year after it was a platform, i did not agree with the way it becomes a DRM, and had a few exchanges with the devs over that side of it. I also have seen the predictions i made about Steam come true in relation to the effect of Steam Sales on game developers (can be good, but is not always), and with the Steam Workshop that is just another way to try to control the 'freedom' we have over how we play our games.

So on an ideological level i never liked Steams model, it is about Steam's control of our games over other concerns (we have seen how Microsoft has abused that same position in the OS space etc).

In relation to NMS i always wanted it as a SP experience, and i play it exclusively 'off-line' to avoid other peoples bad planet and creature names ruining the immersion i want in my game. So i have no desire to share or visit other people stuff in NMS, so on that level i'm also completely happy to carry on supporting (i made a few mods etc) and playing the open GOG platforms version, rather than the Steam one that will coerce me into being forced to use it's service with incentives (Steam Workshop exclusive content etc).

But i understand this is completely an ideological choice each player must make themselves. I support GOG because i agree with it's ideology (no DRM, player controls their games fully etc).
I just read the Patch notes, I was really busy yesterday, never got around to playing NMS until this morning...

exo-vehicles Everywhere!! Why or HOW was that not in the 1.21 version to begin with? did they not think people would like to use the vehicles everywhere???
1.22 patched the holes in 1.2, they had a few bugs from it which caused balancing issues all resolved now...

as for steamworkshop, its been commonplace that workshop content is far inferior to mod site content... NMSmods and Nexus have the best and most updated. The devs of their biggest mods (that stay updated) wont be migrating to workshop anytime soon.

Visiting other people's bases supposedly works and does not require workshop but appears to be buggy based on my own reading and experience. I've been to a few "claimed" bases but they've shown unclaimed for me each time. A user on Reddit was keeping track of visitors to their base at first but stopped after 5 folks were there on the same platform and only 2 successfully saw the base (all saw the communications beacons that had been left by the base owner and others).

I too am very disappointed that HG did not include some kind of simple base export/import option. I proved a while ago that other than rotation, the copying of a base is easy. It is just a chunk of JSON data. I did not have the code to correct the rotations which they have obviously implemented for imported workshop base designs. HelloGames made a conscious decision to not have any type of support for GOG users for this type of functionality. GOG has allowed such disparate support. They could have easily created a simple file export/import and allowed ALL users, not just Steam users, to have access to the functionality but made the choice to withhold such functionality from GOG users.

This will be my last purchase of an Active, Currently live, in life cycle, supported product from GOG. I shall continue to support GOG in the capacity of 'Good Old Games' but current games have been removed from any plans for GOG as they are not getting proper support for the products. This game is a prime example, GOG users of NMS have been given broken half-patches, missed for some experimental patches, missing features, etc. Not anywhere near reasonable given having paid full premium price. There is a large difference between buying a no longer supported product and having things not exactly as when the product was released, and buying an actively supported, in life-cycle product and getting subpar treatment. At this point the only way GOG could get me to consider buying a NEW/Current game from them again would be to guarantee that during the product's normal life-cycle GOG will receive equal support OR a key is provided for the primary platform on which the product will be supported (ex in this case Steam) otherwise GOG will only be for games that are no longer actively officially supported ('Good Old Games')..

Yes, agree, that would have been a success. I understand that HG wants somehow to increase the online features, but still the best features are - and should remain IMO - singleplayer.

I can imagine this for future releases:
You can export a base that you have built for installation on another planet or for people to download.
They should introduce some 'Nanobots' that will re-build your base with some nice and quick animation sequences. Maybe the re-build shall cost you something (a reasonable price, say 30.000 units).

I find it boresome to have to re-build exactly my base elsewhere once I have a good and big one,

I've already found 2 bases from other people.. (i have no life) you just scan for discovery's on the galaxtic map and warp over... pretty easy takes a super longtime!

really cool to play around in someone elses base ^_^

Yes, I know that you can visit someone else's base if it's activated in the Options, but what I intended by 'exporting a base' is to create a template of it that you can re-use on another planet with a Homebase. Because this alone would be far too easy and discourage building, this should come with a high cost (for lazy people like me who don't spend much time on building). My base is far too simple and I wouldn't dare sharing it to the community, it's functional and nothing more. I have been playing since december (from Foundation) and still I didn't even complete the Quests of the NPC's yet. I was too busy with other interesting aspects of NMS, simple exploring and hunting for the 100% fauna especially.

Now that the devs have taken the easy play with crashed ships away, base building and trading will become much more important. I hope they will add some other quests. Also your number of slots are not that important and critical any more because of 6 ships that you can own (+ freighter), so trading and stocking goods is even more encouraged.

Returning to OP's topic about the versions, there are a lot of angry PS4 players that cannot mod their savegames like in the PC versions, I hardly can understand why PS4 is good for gaming anyway, a PC is much more flexible and surely doesn't stand behind in the grafics...But anyone is free to chose, but do not lament after...
