So, today I decided to try the weekend quest again. Am I the only one who absolutely HATES it the way it's set up?

The thing is... everyone is sent to that one location. So when I got to that planet, I encountered a cacophony of players, ships, bases, structures, markers, custom markers etc. It is impossible to find the actual marker of the structure you need to "talk to".

But worse than that, I suddenly get all sorts of "friends" requests from people who never even bothered to say "hi" first... now give me one reason why I would want to be friends with people who don't communicate? So I ignore those.

Today was even worse actually. I got out of my spaceship to start collecting the objects needed for this mission... when 2 seconds later, some random stranger "gifted" me with the full amount of items needed without asking if I actually wanted them. Mission accomplished. Big thank you! Yeah, not...

There is absolutely no fun involved in the way it's set up now. PLEASE Hello Games, give us a choice of locations for the weekend mission... when you chose "solo", send me to a planet of my own. There are 18 quintillon planets... why do you insist we all go the same one?

When I do the weekend quests (which, admittedly, I've not recently) I always go in with multiplayer turned off. The bases are there (are they still there?) but no crowds of other players.

TBH I rarely turn multiplayer on since I'm looking for that "chill" experience. ;-)

Currently wandering around near the core of the Eajerandal galaxy, so even with multiplayer on I don't think I'll run into any long lines at the trading posts ...

After obtaining the mission you can do one of two things:
1. Turn off multiplayer but this will not block all of bases or asinine messages.
2. Disconnect from Internet - this will block most of the problems and annoyances.

After completing the mission and returning to where you came from you can reenable whatever you disabled.

By the way we have no indication that HG ever reads the GOG forums. They do not even post the announcements for updates that they post in the Steam forum or forums for the consoles. There was a time shortly after the initial release that a post or two was made here but that was four years ago and no activity since.

Thank you guys. I get it... The answer is to play offline during those missions. I can live with that... It's not ideal but it's certainly doable. So thank you for that!

The pollution with player bases is a problem in EVERY weekend event. I don't mind players and their ships roaming around but to see what is build around the target area during such events is simply odd. Should be forbidden.

Interestingly that you say that you are gifted by the requested material almost instantly since this hardly never happened to me. If a player wants to be helpful it is okay for me but in your case it might also has something to do that you wear a female name and other players are more kind to you because of this. Please don't get me wrong but I guess you know what I mean and how things are going on in the internet these days.

To get back to the topic of this weekends event the worst idea ever was to place a derelict freighter right next to the target area which made movement almost impossible (due to gravitational interferences by the freighter). I really wonder what kind of things have to happen to create such idotic ideas? Maybe taking the worst drugs on this planet or banging the head permanently against a wall... Whatever it is, these people should stop it for the good of the players and their own.
This is all WHY i never want to play NMS multiplayer. The other people (and i'd be in that from the other side!) can ruin it. It is why having a fully playable single player experience is so essential for the 'soul' of this game imho.
Agree with you both :) I actually don't mind the Nexus as much, but still, it's not a very suitable social place. I usually only go there to ask for black hole coordinates, buy upgrades, start missions, etc. I usually don't come in to chat (though I don't mind that either, on occasion).

In fact the multiplayer aspect could be implemented so much better, as long as it is YOUR choice to visit a public place. I wish they would add the equavalent of true public places, such virtual pubs, clubs, mission events etc to hang out together. In that case, hanging out with friends/strangers is your own choice, not something to put up with.

As for receiving unexpected gifts, it was the first time it happened to me too ^_^ It's quite charming when it happens in the Nexus (in fact when I was brand new, an unxpected gift allowed me to upgrade my ship) but when on a mission, you kinda choose the challenge and I wasn't charmed at all.
I have to differ here; in my opinion, multiplayer in NMS is implemented in the best way possible: you can toggle it on the fly, at any time, from the network options menu (unless you are already in a group).

In most other games i've played, it's usually a choice you make at the main menu, before gameplay starts, i.e. you either start a single-player game or create/join a multiplayer game/server. But in NMS you can toggle it at will, without restarting or exiting to the main menu, which is clearly better imho.

I hate them too. I stopped doing them and submitted feedback to HG as to why. Apart from being boring in general, I can never seem to complete one without some bug/crash requiring me to start the mission over. Ya, no thanks. Not my idea of a good time.

I personally haven't experienced random friend invitations, but I can see why that would be annoying. I do have experience with the other issues you brought up in your feedback and I agree with your assement.
I started turning off MP in the Nexus due to people just putting stuff in my inventory and lately it has become people hogging the Nexus mission generator by selecting the weekend event mission and just sitting there idling. They're not looking for others to join, they just seem to want to block people from taking the mission who prefer to go solo. I also got trapped a few times by people building structures on top of anomaly areas. Ugh, turn off MP and finish the mission in peace.
If you get trapped in a player's base (which means you had multiplayer enabled, else it wouldn't have been downloaded and rendered), you can still regain your freedom by reporting it, causing it to instantly vanish from your world (others will still be able to interact with it).

To do so, enter the quick menu and select the "report" icon (iirc it's like a warning sign, a triangle with an exclamation mark inside). You will be prompted to take a screenshot, to indicate how it is abusive/inappropriate, which will be uploaded to HG. Regardless of their subsequent decision on the matter (whether it will be removed for everyone), it will instantly disappear from your world.

If for some reason the game wont let you report, try to do so after toggling multiplayer off, then re-enable it (if you wish) once the base is gone and resume your quest unhindered.
Thanks, good tips all around. I think that I'll try the most rigorous solution next time and disconnect from the internet for the duration of the mission. Will report back how that goes :)

Meanwhile, I'm starting to get a little excited about Origins/Oranges :D
You dont really have to disconnect from the internet, that sounds paranoid... Just toggle multiplayer off from the handy options screen instead, before starting the mission (all nearby players go poof at that instant!).

Btw thx for the "origins/oranges", had missed Sean's posted meme till i read that and googled it!
Good to know ^_^

Origins: hopefully tomorrow...
