In a perfect world and stuff.. now, with that handwaving done.

Lets discuss things that cause this version to crash, hangup, burp, produce graphic problems.

1. In abandoned stars systems, with these infested spacestations, and no npcs, DO NOT complete missions, game will hang locating a mission collector. Just froze up my game, 'scanning 7 minerals'.

2. Parking capital ship in a roidbelt or in a commerce lane, the Status panel will lock down game, trying to draw all the action outside, next to that scrollable frigate list.

All I got thusfar.
Thanks for the warning.
Exiting in my freighter or Anomaly from my big exotic ship puts me inside the wall structure. I can't get out and have to reload the manual save.

A Squiddy? I've been thinking of camping out in a system where I've seem them spawn buuuuut... now maybe not. Stick with my fighter for a while longer.
This one.

Still the same in 1.64.

Squidy might be okay. Because, its not as tall or wide as a fin ship, with deployable side fins. Having trouble confirming, only squid, I've seen, I was in my S fighter in orbital port, so I could not switch out, to crappy ship, and trade up, like at spaceport. Mine had a bridge, over tentacles, was a 20/6 with really nice block positions for a fighter.

I have a red squid ship. Need to test that one. My tiny exotoc is fine.
3. This crash is caused by a noncrash bug which in many cases, results in sentinel death. As a shock to the player. Upon exiting Exocrft, while a 2 star wanted search is in progress, all the doors, not landing pad doors, on your base, will disappear, giving the player nowhere to hide out the sentinel search. Fortunely we can jump up and enter landing pad door. All appears normal upon reload. Doors will reappear. I will refer to this as the Haunted base bug. It may also happen while adding a cannon to exocraft, while a sentinel search is in progress. It may also happen while abusing the floating Nomad ability. The exact cause is still being narrowed down.
I was gonna hold off, but alas I am in Abyss, latest patch to it 1.71, and Ive another crash avoidance tip. #4.

4. Do not take "Deliver an Item" mission, because it will crash NMS when it tries to give a Defense Chit.

5. Empty ship crash sites, crash the game. Ha. I realize that this is vague. Still narrowing down the cause. The crash occured in a charted star, but lifeless world, with the 1 point of interest on the entire lifeless planet. Happened in flight as soon as flag, broken machinery, and blackbox came into pov.

6. Having a rash of #2, but in 1.71, hmm.

Its important to note I guess. The crashes I get all feel like memory leaks, I get the blue circling busy mouse pointer, white screen asking me if I wanna wait for NMS to finish its erroneous code... usually I stop process. Waiting never works.

As far as I'm aware, this is unrelated to Sentinels but is a bug with the original room parts (circular room, cuboid room, etc.) and doors with ramps. The ramps seem to be the trigger. I solved that by removing the ramps and building a stairway with the newer metal stairs up to the base's front door. For the back door, a solid cuboid attached at the bottom of the door and mostly sunken in the ground. Since doing that I've never had a door disappear.

I've run these missions since they first came out and I've never had one crash on me. I don't usually use the Defense Chits, preferring to fight it out, but it's handy to keep a stack of them just in case. Although in my main thread I'm running an S-38 fighter with multiple upgrades so space battles aren't much of a threat now. ;-)

My understanding is that HG intentionally dialed back on the frequency of ships at so-called crash sites. Rebalancing or something, I guess.

It has been a long, long time since NMS has crashed here, either a crash to desktop or a freeze. I still drop a save point before something major out of habit but haven't needed to use it. Check your video driver & settings. And also, of course, MS Windows will "rust" over time with successive updates, installations, etc. If you're running Win7 and haven't done a clean re-install in a while (or ever) then that might help.
Like dashiichi, I've not experienced any crashes with Delivery quests. In fact, I did a couple just last night with no issues. Same with empty ship crash sites. I've found a couple and no game crash. I haven't specifically noticed anything with regards to scenario #2 either. Will try to remember to check that tonight.

For me, the latest update has improved performance, which was somewhat degraded with the Abyss update.

#2 is very discouraging. Partly because the only thing I am doing is pulling up a list of the 5 different types of frigates, to READ, and partly because its such a burden on player to run back down to hanger to make a save. Ive lost hours worth of capital ship inventory item handling, muling, selling off stuff, packrat stuff from it, because I look on list, before resending out 5 new fleets. Its only place to see which frigates CAP out on XP. No more XP progress wheel displayed. I prefer not to send those back out, Ive got four capped frigates. SS Legendary xxx1 thru xxx4. Renaming um helps me keep track of the ones no longer gaining XPS, so it really stinks when NMS crashes, so far from a save point during strategy decision making.

On #4 I was flying out of the hanger when scroll appeared, giving me the Defense Chit. Then NMS froze. Maybe I sprinted too far from quest giver... hmm. I thought they removed Defence Chit dialoge, I never see dialogue notices. Just red, "your being scanned" msg. This maybe the cause of #2, Bridge maybe too far from fleet room, when items delivery scroll occurs. I usually sold off, very fast. Hmm.

Going with a hardcap on FPS in an attempt to stop memory leak-like crashing. Had it on MAX, dropped it in NMS Graphics Options to 60. Crossing fingers. My toon must be outpacing the game.. sprinting too fast from dialogue.

I live on aggresive sentinel world. Ill try and reproduce it on 1.71, For the record, 2 of the 3 doors had ramps. All three were forcefield(blue)FF doors. I just figured the landingpad doors were part of that particular part.

Its got something to do with sentinels flagging me, and me being in vehicle at the time. My assumption is they used the blue FF door, as a basis to design tractorbeam hanger bay door on freighters, and it disappears, as if, or just as when the tractor beam(autopilot glowie area) would turn orange in space when we misfire on a sentenel ship.
