This game has always been tempermental on my rig. But since the latest update it doesn't boot at all. Just very long startup splash screen, then black screen. Have to use task manager to close.

How long did you wait before you killed it? Try to wait 10 minutes.
What are your PC specs?

10 MINUES? Who waits 10 minutes for a game to start? I gave it a good 5, about 5 times.

GFX 1080TI
32GB RAM
i7 8700k

I was saying 10 just to be sure it never starts. We have to play elimination right now. Do you have an anti virus and can you try disabling that?
Check out this thread, it has a lot of things that might fix it for you: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1051690/discussions/2/3177859849532860239/

Okay. about 30 seconds from pushing the play button on Galaxy, 3 minutes between splash screen and black screen, a further 8 minutes of black screen before game start.

Tried the instructions in the link you provided. No difference.

Re-installed the game. No difference.

Are you saying the game actually does eventually start? Have you tried installing the game on a SSD?

I should have clarified, yes it does eventually start up. It is running on an SSD.

That doesn't make sense. It should start in seconds on a SSD. I have no idea what could cause this. Do you have anything weird in your setup or are you using stuff like custom overlays or anything at all that is custom or have you made some custom setting changes for your video card or something? Is your SSD used for something else that is demanding? Maybe you can try disabling your antivirus if you have one... I really have never seen anything like this before.

Leave it to me to have a special kind of weird no one can figure out. No. I'm not into crazy customer setups on my SSD or my GPU. It's all pretty vanilla. I will try disabling my antivirus.
"CUSTOM" setups. Not customer.
It loads a little faster with the antivirus off. Would a VPN connection cause any problems, do you think?

I don't think so... unless there's some kind of network connection I don't understand.
Okay. Turning it off didn't seem to make much of a difference. However an 18mb update seems to have stopped the crashing at least.

The last update I did wasn't to fix crashes, so it's probably just chance. I honestly have no idea what the issue is. There's no explanation as to why it's taking so long to start on a SSD, other than hardware failure. If it's something else, I just don't know what to ask you to check. I know this hasn't been reported by anyone else and I can recommend trying another PC. I'd tell you to ask for a refund, but I'm guessing you can't at this point. Sorry.
