Hi folks,

I'm new to GoG and just bought and installed NWN (yay :) ) however, I'm having trouble with the resolution, it doesn't seem to want to go full screen beyond 800 x 600? I'd love it to work on 1680 x 1050 if poss. I'm running Win 7 64 bit.

Any advie greatly appreciated!

I'm already having to run it in compatability mode just to get it beyond splash screen :/

Can you run the Config utility (one of the options on the startup screen)?

If so, is that resolution available in the Options -> Video Options settings when you fire up the game?

Check your nwn.ini file (in themain NWN folder where you installed the game. Under Display Options, what resolution does it show? What happens if you change it to your resolution (assuming it's not already set that way)?

Yes I can run the config utility and I have a variety of res' available, ranging from 800 x 600 to my desired 1680 x 1050. The game will start up in this res, however, I'm presented with a small version of the screen surrounded by a black outline i.e. the 'full screen' is black and I just have a small window bang in the middle showing the game etc.

I have checked my INI file (I think it was the right file) and under display it also said 1680 x 1050.

I've tried going into the INI files etc and editing them in compatability mode and so on.
Tried running in compatability mode/administrator and so on :/ Still no luck!

This is a weird problem and I don't know what to suggest. Where do you have the game installed? The only other thing I can think of is make sure it's not installed in Programs or Programs(x86). Try somewhere such as C:\Games.

*edit* Hold on: is it the actual game itself that's at that small resolution or are you just talking about the start menu? The start menu (where you choose Play, Configure, Exit, etc) won't be at your native resolution. But the game should be once you start it. Just double checking.

I believe that i´m having the exactly same problem: NWN only runs in 800x600 in the middle of the screen with the rest of the screen black.

Neither changing the ini file or nwconfig changes this behavior, regardless of the resolution you input in either method.

I also am unable to run the game in windowed mode, if i change the settings on the ini file the game simply does not start (there is no error message or anything, it just does not start).

Any idea on what to do?

I am having the exact same problem as Makinus so it's good to see I'm not alone - hopefulyl we can find an agreeable solution!

I'm at work so can't confirm, but I'm of the impression that the game is installed in C:/GoG/Neverwinter Nights DE I think.

Hmm after further investigation it turned out it was installed in Programs 86.
I've uninstalled and re-installed direct to C:\Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition

Sadly still no luck, I can't even get it to pop up in 800x600 now!
Surely this shouldn't happen to a game that's "Compatible with Windows 7" according to GoG? I kind of want my money back :(

I'd prefer to get the game working though!

The nwconfig.ini had "Desktop Resolution=Unknown"
The nwn.ini currently has
[Display Options]
Width=1680
Height=1050

I'm confused :/

- mine is installed in C:\games\nwnd

- still stuck in 800 x 600, but now nwconfig does not show any option when i try to select resolution, and after running nwconfig the ini file show a couple of crazy numbers for resolutions (632093 or something for each field) - if i edit manually the resolution it continues to ignore it and only runs in 800 x 600

It's a shame...it's put me off buying anything else from GoG :/
Not their fault...but I just don't see the point in buying something I can't play!

I've no idea what's causing this. But I'd suggest as a last ditch attempt to toss an e-mail to GOG support and see if they can help out.

The game will not in run in full screen mode in anything higher than 800 x 600. Its an old game, not much can be done about that. However - you can run the game in windowed mode in a higher resolution. See here Window Mode. I have used this method and it works well. You just need to pay attention to screen focus when you are in a battle.

On another note, I think its important to point out that many games in GOG are old, and have hard coded display properties, there is nothing that can be done on this account, and really doesn;t reflect on GOG. I love the site and their DRM free games. In fact i am about to buy a few more right now :D

Then post your configs so other people can use them. From what I can tell the game is maxed to run at 800x600. If you want to run it at a higher res, then you will have to do it windowed.
