I used to play this game for my pc, but now i have a laptop netbook.. Its a small asus, has windows 7 64 bit and has 1 gig of ram, but it works pretty well with temple of elemental evil and the other good old games of that era. I often had problems running neverwinter nights on my old vista pc and it would crash every so often. Ive checked the specs on nwn and it says to have 512 mb of ram. Will this game work now that i have the less buggy windows 7 or should i even bother? I really love nwn as a game but the crash feature of it drove me nuts in the past. Any thoughts?
There are no guarantees but with win7 you have a lot higher chance of getting it to work. Most win7 users don't have a problem. Especially if you follow the recomended installation tricks like:

- do NOT install under the programs folder
- get the 1.69 patch
- run as admin from nwmain.exe

...then you should be ok..there are some other settings if even that doesn't work but it should.

Umm, actually Superfly, GoG versions don't need the 1.69 patch now and there's a bit more to the installation than that. XP compatibility for example. Installation guide

deathknight1728, well BW never official supported NWN for laptop use, but everyone I know who has one reported no problems. Most of those sound a little more powerful than the one you have but then they can play much more intensive and newer games too. I suspect you'll have no issues at all, just get the right drivers. But that's pure theory. Win7'll work better than vista did, that I probably can promise.

Good luck :)
Hm.. the game runs fine with small battles, but big battles with lots of enemies/cutscenes, it runs really slow. If i lower the graphic detail in the options page will that increase performance or should i just forget about it?
Ahh...performance problems...well, your computer should be good enough to run NWN in maximum detail so that is not the problem I think. I would try the following:

- I would get and install the 1.69 patch (or critical rebuild as it is called sometimes) anyway. I mean at least it wont break anything...I'd do it just to be sure.

- Check the "Client CPU Affinity" setting in the nwnplayer.ini file. NWN doesn't support multiple processors. You have to set NWN's affinity so that it only runs on a single core. In the ini file set "Client CPU Affinity=1". If the line does not exist you can add it.

- Are you by chance running a newer Nvidia card? Say 200 series and up? If so grab the latest 280.xx drivers. That solved lag issues for a lot of folks.

- Not sure about this but if nothing else works you could also try getting an older Direct X version (9b I think it was).

The 1.69 crit rebuild is a pointless download for gog users. A reinstall would do the same thing and nothing to download.

The "Client CPU Affinity" fix is only relevant to vista OS. Win7 sorts it out for you,

Superfly is right about drivers tho. The right video and sound drivers are vital. Also, check out Installation guide. Normally something wrong with the install would stop the gane running completely, but no harm in checklisting the install is correct. It is probably drivers tho. NWN needs openGL ability and the directX superfly mentioned

Good luck :)
Oh yeah...you need to run the game in XP SP3 compatibility mode...but all that is on Shias tricks page.

Another thing I remembered was that some experience improvements when running NWN in windowed mode.
