Considering buying it on sale, but I only like turn-based combat. If this can be played in a turn-based mode, would it be more like ToEE where every PC gets his/her own turn, or more like IWD1 where I can pause it & give the entire party commands all at once? Or is it something completely different?

Pause & issue commands, but there is no party control in NWN. You can control directly only your character, and issue general commands to your henchman via radial menu or keyboard shortcut.

So this is more a solo style adventure, with my "party members" being "henchmen" who I pick up & drop off along the way?

The game technically has turns, and you can pause the game to place commands and plan your strategy, but it is not turn-based in the sense of Pokemon.

Yes, exactly. Only in PvP can you really see or rather suffer from the not quite exactly turn based system it uses. Otherwise you might as well say it is turn based.
