PeterScott: Really what else does it do? Because when I read the description, it was server connection, player world, multiplayer, dm client stuff.
I saw nothing for the single player usage.

touched: Most significantly, it corrects the timing "stuttering" issue without having to reboot, and stops your main character from turning slightly when stopping moving. Those alone are enough for me to recommend people use it. It also contains some things useful for builders. I'll paste some of the non-multiplayer notes from the client extension's readme file.
There is much simpler fix for that. I prefer a light touch.

Much of the rest of it, is a matter of preference, not significant problems.

I prefer that my character run, rather than walk, why would want your character to move slower? Usually this is a request for online play so character can walk together.

Yes, much of it aside from the stuttering is a matter of preference and not significant, but I also see some crash prevention in there, and if you don't experience crashes, then don't worry about it. I only listed the things because you were saying it was only for multiplayer, and it's not.

In any case, there was nothing complicated about using this. I put it in the game folder and it works, permanently. Much more convenient for me than rebooting my computer whenever I want to play a particular game. I get it, though. You don't want to use it, and that's up to you. I'm not looking to convince you. I don't think anything further needs to be said on the subject.

You have to launch through the Client Extender though. I tried it a while back and didn't really like it.

As I said there is a simpler fix for the stutter. Someone did a DLL fix Jade Empire. You just drop it into your directory and it works.

I posted about it here before:

Launching it through the Client Extension is no different from launching it through any other shortcut. There's no extra button to push, no hassle, nothing. Why are you making such a big deal about this? Yes, again, I get it, you don't like it and don't want to use it.

It isn't just like a shortcut. It spawns three extra windows.

I just think it is unnecessary unless it is for online play, and it is overkill to fix the stutter issue, which has a lightweight solution.

Also when I tried it seemed to mess up my custom camera settings.

darktjm: Then again, maybe I have built a high tolerance for poor game design over the years; after all, I bought Daggerfall new in the store, as well as Morrowind and Oblivion, and Bethesda can't deliver even remotely bug-free software to save its life.

eVinceW21: I always thought I had a high tolerance for bugs and glitches. I either luck out when playing games reportedly rampant with bugs or avoid them entirely. And when I do encounter the occasional glitch I just acknowledge that these things are par for the course. PoE ran just fine. Purred like a kitten. Heck it's one of my most favorite recent gameS in years and I've heaped glowing praise upon it.

But NWN is virtually unplayable. Nevermind that it's a lazy game to begin with. But even that's worth a few hours of enjoyment assuming it basically functions

I'm also tired of people taking games that are well-liked and posting "this shit game won't work for you our anyone!!! Wahh!!!!!!'. No further response necessary, I think. After all, like other games I've tried to defend, I'm sure the haters will come down on me for daring to actually like a game with such a well-articulated argument against it. I'm sure Obsidian will miss you.

You come off as a might sensitive there. I'd apologize for striking a nerve, but I don't think I could avoid hitting it if I tried.
Can anyone help me with the crashes during multiplayer on NVW2 instead of bashing this game in that thread? THose crashes are seriously annoying

PeterScott: It isn't just like a shortcut. It spawns three extra windows.
Are you just changing the focus of your complaint every time I address it? Now it's the windows you don't like. My point was that launching the game is no more of a hassle with the client extension, regardless of whether it spawns extra windows. Those windows don't require any extra attention, and close themselves when you close the game. In fact, there don't even need to be three, because if you close the ones that aren't titled "NWN2 Client Extension Console", it will never show them again unless you summon them yourself, so it's only one extra window. And I like that one extra window because it acts as a larger dialogue, message, and combat log.

And I don't, and it's not. It's useful and does more things that I want done than the DLL you're pushing, but you won't see me bashing that solution like you're bashing this one.

eVinceW21: People talk about games being released broken, incomplete and glitched into an unplayable state. Neverwinter Nights 2's completely broken functionality is inexcusable. I never fully understood people's disdain for Obsidian.
How did anyone make the conscious decision to ship NWN2 in this state? I have never used a more broken piece of software.
avatar
PeterScott: Get a grip.

I played the entirety of the GoG NWN2 release. All the included modules and many third party modules.

The camera doesn't work quite a well as the one in NWN, but it gets the job done decently.

Altogether I have played a few hundred hours of this release.

I find your complaints over the top and kind of silly.

This is a VERY solid and stable release. Better than most modern games.
I worked for OEI on this game for an entire year and I still find the camera to be insufferable. Im glad its was good enough for you. However, for me its a near constant distraction.

Simply because you are happy does not invalidate other peoples expirence with the product. Neither should their dissatisfaction hinder your enjoyment.

You know I've given this game a second chance, installed some mods, the client extension and various other fixes and functionality that have actually cleaned up the mess of bugs and glitches. So as to my comment about NWN2 not receiving sufficient fan support... I was wrong. These guys have done an admirable job making this game from a broken mess into something playable and like I expected I've actually been having a bit of fun so far. I wish combat didn't consist entirely of wave after wave of trash mob, but alas.

The camera controls have been reigned in. Whatever fixes the client patch installs must fine tune the camera settings so it isn't so wild. Also, companion AI fixes are as robust as they need to be for companion behavior to work. This was Obsidian's mistake. It's like they went for a versatile AI and then didn't bother to cover all the bases which is why companions routinely spaz out. This fix adds more options for more control over companion behavior and works out the bugs.

here's a Link to the ai fixpack https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/script/companion-and-monster-ai-22

So I apologize for the click bait-y thread title but really, NWN2 Shouldn't Exist IN ITS UNFINISHED COMPLETELY BROKEN AND UTTERLY UNPLAYABLE STATE. Fortunately fans cared more about making this work than Obsidian or their publishers did.

The Client Extension and ai fixpack are essential for making this game function. Installing them is simple so don't even think about playing NWN2 without them.
