It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

MagicalMaster: Okay, so here's what you want to do:

1. Open My Computer
2. Click on the C drive
3. Click on the Windows folder
4. Click on the System32 folder
5. Click on the drivers folder
6. Click on the etc folder
7. At this point you should see a file called "hosts" (without the quotes)
8. Open the file
9. Edit the hosts by adding "69.10.25.55 nwvault.ign.com" (without the quotes) at the bottom
10. Save the file
11. Restart browser (may be able to skip this step)
12. Should be good to go

If you're having trouble editing the hosts file I can send you a version to replace it via email.
I have it working now.
Thank you.
web.archive.org/web/20130611204419/http://nwvault.ign.com/
^there is also this, if you need to make some urgent backups and it gets taken down for good (highlight and copy paste).

Thanks a lot,works fine now.
Since there is a lot of concern about the possibility of nwvault going down permanently, I was wondering whether other people were having the same problem as me currently. I did the hosts file edit a few days ago and everything has gone okay currently. However, now when I try to access the website it gives a malware warning, enter at your own risk message (in fact apparently there was a malware report regarding the website submitted yesterday). Furthermore, even if you do keep on going and attempt to download a module or file or whatever, instead it says something like "vnfiles.ign.com cannot be found, did you mean ign.com?" and obviously you can't download anything

Perhaps the vault has finally been taken down for good, but I just wanted to see whether I'm the only one getting this or not. (I'm using Google Chrome as my browser by the way)

Cheers guys

Yes, it seems earlier this morning that it went further kaput and nothing is downloadable. It seems likely it is going down, especially with the complete lack of meaningful response from IGN.

Working on populating the new vault and have most of the old material backed up (plus people can upload new stuff).

This is only an annoyance.

An annoyance yes but also an unfortunate sign in light of the fact that so many people have the opportunity to try NWN due to this awesome site and may be looking for good links. At least there's a rather thorough stickied list in this forum.
I was thinking precisely the same thing: one of the incentives for people to buy NWN now would've been the various modules that would extend it's life for a fair few hundred hours. There's still a fair bit of stuff on the new vault, but still nwvault was massive...
I guess some of the powers that be hold a grudge against GoG? Hahaha
I'm happy to upload some of the things I've got on my hard drive up onto the new neverwintervault if anyone here is interested. Mostly they're just modules (and/or the haks and other files required to play said modules), but it would be sad if people could never play them again.
Also if people could upload any headpacks (in override to use at character creation) that'd be awesome

You should try to contact Rolo Kipp on the new vault.
Yes, finally the IGN Vault has been dismantled. Up until Wednesday AM (7/2), it could still be accessed by direct connect and files downloaded. That's over now.

The place to get community-made content and utilities is now The Neverwinter Vault (forum won't let me post links for some reason) If you believe there are some files that were on the IGN Vault but can't find them there (the Search engine is far from perfect, unfortunately), lodge a request that they be uploaded by one of the staff. Supposedly most, if not all files had been copied over over a month ago, but to install them all back in an indexed, search-able DB will be a Herculean effort. The standing NWN community is banding together to expedite the conversion, so have some patience and all your favorite modules will eventually be available at one site again.

I believe all the patches (foreign language versions, critical rebuilds, etc.) are still available via the Bioware ftp site (see Neverwinter Nights Community Site for the links).

Actually, it's still accessible but all of the graphics and logos are broken and you can't download anything. And I think that's a good thing (that it still works), because like you said the search function is right now quite bad at the new vault so you can still search the old vault for interesting modules and then download them off the new one. How do you lodge a request btw? Send a PM? I don't have an account there yet and I don't plan on one right away.

The new vault also doesn't contain any screenshots which I think is a pity, especially for all the various graphics and portrait mods/hakpacks.

Also right off the first page of the Hall of Fame all four modules by Abaddon are not available on the new vault. Or some other ones on the later pages.

The patches are also available at the new vault, however maybe some of the ones which aren't used much anymore (older builds) may be missing now as the list was missing some of the English patches, but it was numbers which I don't think you'd use anyway.

Fuck IGN. I will not go to them again.
And,sorry, but the New Vault is pretty much useless as it now stands.
I think we have to be grown up and admit:The NWN community is dead. It was fun while it lasted.

Absolutely not. The community isn't suddenly dead because IGN shut down that site. The new vault is also dramatically being improved, nearly all of the old vault's data is secured but it will take time to sort it out and upload it.

There's still dozens of posts per day on the Bioware forums alone plus quite a few online worlds that boast several dozen players online at any given point (and those players mainly post on their world's forums, not the Bioware ones). Thousands of people still play NWN, people are still making custom content, people are still producing modules and worlds.

Here we go again. Every time we hit a bump in the road somebody declares NwN dead.

NWN will be just fine. We have all the old content backed up and we're still making new content every day.

No downloads = no service, in my book. If the IGN search helps you locate a project at least that's something, but I would get overly warm and fuzzy about the scant usefulness. Better to begin to experiment with the new Vault's search engine. Projects can be found. It's just not intuitive. Like finding the right item on ebay. Can be an exhaustive process, but there's a payoff.

The new vault also doesn't contain any screenshots which I think is a pity, especially for all the various graphics and portrait mods/hakpacks.
I view the screenies as pure cosmetics to brighten up a project page a bit. You'll only get a small sample anyway so just delete the file if it doesn't meet your expectations. The issue with the action that IGN pulled is that even though the new Vault staff had backed-up the files themselves, the peripheral information like images & descriptions were not scraped out, at least that';s been my impression. I could be wrong, though. All the metadata may have been retrieved.

Interesting. Hadn't poked around for them myself. That's good to hear since there are still a lot of versions of the game floating around.

And as far as the NWN gaming community goes...

Death is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. Compared to the new MMOs, the subscribership is small. But what remains are the dedicated remnants who continue to build new content and utilities to make the game more enjoyable than was viewed possible 10 years ago.

The community is still alive and vital. Closing the Bioware legacy forum couldn't kill it. Davis's acquisitiion of Gamespy and subsequent shut-down couldn't kill it. And IGN's underhanded tactics will also not kill it. Whether you folks realize it or not, the NWN community is wholly unique entity, one that will likely never exist again. Enthusiasts who give unselfishly of their time and labor to develop a game free-of-charge just has no place in current gaming environment headed quickly toward on-line pay-as-you-play environments. So get in line and keep your charge card handy.

NWN is far from dead. Just check out the development sections of BSN and you will see that work goes on. The major difference between today and 2003-ish is that in those 10+ years the membership has aged. The 30 year olds are now in their 40 or higher and RL has away of becoming more and more of an impact than when they were mere embryos starting out their NWN careers.

As Ford Prefect's guide publicized... "DON'T PANIC."
Great news folks (and Chipster), the old Vault is still accessible and working (with downloads!) when used via the Waybackmachine, so if you find something you want that's not at the new vault, get it from the old one and then upload it to the new one as well! :)

I stand corrected, I just found yesterday one or two projects which did have them, while others don't, so it's very individual and it depends on the uploader.

They're right at the top, on the right-side, just click on the 'Patches' link next to Media.
