Hi,

I have a problem with NWN1. Whenever I start the game in 1080p/60hz, the graphics are extremely blurry and dark and I get the feeling that the refresh rate is too low. I have checked the nwn.ini and the settings for 1080p/32 bit/ 60 hz are correct. I am playing on an i7 2600k with Radeon HD7970 Ghz edition and Windows 8.1. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Have you tried adjusting the Gamma slider under video options?

Yes, it doesn't help. But the graphics are so blurry that I can barely read texts in the game and the refresh rate feels wrong. It's unplayable.
Right click on the shortcut to NWN and make sure that the following are checked:

Run program in XP (SP3) compatibility
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition

I don't have an option to disable desktop composition or to disable visual themes.I can't get this game to work.

The HD Radeon series sometimes have problem "Deciphering" texture for old games, applying the wrong filters and pretty much fucking things up

Try to disable morphological filtering under gaming options, in the CCC

If the problem persist, disable ALL graphical options in the CCC, switching everything to Default and letting the application set the various graphical options, plus run the game windowed. Any application not run in fullscreen forcefully disable certain graphical option for the Radeon series, maybe it's just one of them

Also you may try to set the Anti aliasing Options in CCC to the lowest, should be called Multisampling

Thanks for trying the suggestions, but none of this helped. I should also add that I get the blurry and sluggish graphics when setting the resolution to 1080p, but not when setting it to 800x600.

I get a similar kind of anomaly with Baldur's Gate 2, and it boils down to using, or not using D3D. NWN uses OpenGL, which Radeon cards hate. So my suggestion is to tinker with the config program (nwconfig.exe) inside the installation folder. See if altering the settings can get you a better result.
in this case, it is actually in the hidden files like the manual that ATI Radeon series cards will have issues below the 7500 series. I realize you have one of the other numbers, but mayb there is a work around on the web somewhere?

I will go look again and see if i can find the quote. Personally working with a Radeon 3650 and i have to use the 800x600 or i get jittery squiggles in every shade of gray. will edit if i find the quote:

edit from the readme file:
At 1024x768 with ATI Radeon 7500 and below, frame rate is less than 20 fps.
At 1024x768 with Nvidia GeForce 2MX and GTS, frame rate is less than 20 fps.
Note: Graphics qualities adjustment was necessary to achieve desirable frame rate of 30 fps.
In Windows 9x, at 1024x768 and higher, adjusting the options with the mouse pointer is difficult.
The user must place the palm of the mouse pointer to adjust option.
All Nvidia GeForce2 chipsets and lower on all OS, adjusting the Overall Graphics
Quality causes the game to crash to the desktop with an error.
SIS 315 and SIS 330, Adjusting the Set Resolution in the Video Options
cause the game to crash to the desktop without error.

Shiny water:

In the video options menu, the player will see the option to enable "shiny water".
On some video cards, this option is unavailable:

1. ATI Radeon 7500 and below,Nvidia GeForceDDR, GeForce 2, GeForce4 MX440, and QuadroPro2,
Matrox Parhelia, Matrox G400, Matrox G450, and Matrox G550, SIS 315 and 330.

i turned off Shiney water and took AA to 2 and now i still have to use 800x600 not because of graphics issues but only because my old eyeballs cant read the tiny text in bigger resolution settings - ha ha i am screwed by my own inadequacies.

FYI, I recently bough an Asus Strix GTX 970 OC and now I can play the game without problems in 1080p. It seems that the AMD GPU was indeed the problem.
