Exactly what the subject says... I can't see my character during the customization phase of character creation, so I can't determine what head/body/etc my character is. Has anyone else run across this?

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.80 GHz, 16 GB RAM.

My video card is an AMD Radeon HD 6950. I've already tried disabling the charcater mapping effects box in adv video options.

This sounds like a strange override problem. Do you have any overrides or unofficial patches installed? Or haks?

Is this a new install?

Most probably it's Radeon's fault (again...). Try one of these solutions:

Brand new install. When I first noticed this, it was loading up the game after installing with no modifications done at all. I tried the Critical Rebuild patch from nwvault.org but that still didn't do anything. I plan on modding the game with the PRC pack and CEP and all that, but not until I get a base game working properly.

Have you disabled Enviroment Mapping on Creatures yet? Advanced video options.

Yea I mentioned that I had tried that in my original post, sorry if it was confusing, as I couldn't recall exactly what it was called.

I should mention, however, that when i start the game I can see my character and NPCs no problem... I just can't see it during Character Creation, so I'm basically just clicking the buttons to get a random appearance once I start the game.

Okay, here's an update.... I really hope someone can help me out here.

I played around with the settings a bit more, and discovered that when messing with the video options there's a slider for quality AS WELL AS a slider for textures. My problem is with the texture slider.

There are 4 options on the texture slider: 16 meg COMPATIBILITY MODE, 16 meg, 32 meg, and 64 meg.

The game works as it is supposed to ONLY when compatibility mode is on.

I discovered this when I went to start up the Witches Wake module. Previously, when started up the original campaign, everything seemed fine other than not being able to see my character during character creation. However, upon loading up Witches Wake, the graphics were messed up as if there was something wrong with the textures (see attached image). This is what led me to start playing around with the texture slider and I discovered that having it on the lowest setting (16 meg compatibility mode) not only fixed the character creation screen problem, but also the Witches Wake problem.

Now, that's great that I can see my character and make the game somewhat playable, but I really don't want to have to resort to playing with the lowest texture setting if I can avoid it.

I'd really appreciate some assistance figuring this out!

I have to go with Kerebron here, and lay the blame with Radeon. Why? Because I have a very similar setup to yours, with the exception being graphics card:

You should ensure that you have updated your graphics drivers, and if that doesn't help, even revert to older drivers if necessary.

A lot of Radeon issues can sometimes be solved by downgrading the drivers, unfortunately. You could try downgrading, but then it's a crap shoot.

Sorry for your crappy Radeon experience. I've seen so many complaints here about those cards that I never recommend them anymore.

I don't have any more to offer, but I would suggest following the link about Radeon issues and if those don't take care of the problem, you could try asking Tech Support. Worst case scenario, you could get your money back or disable your GFX card when you wanted to play NWN and just play with your onboard graphics (which are likely good enough to play the game fairly well).
