first of all i love gog as a platform

with popularity of bg3
i think dnd games can sell more on steam

i know at least 50 people gonna buy on day 1 and there is a community page on steam
people still trying to find/trade gift copies
so why not re-release on steam ?

thx
Not sure why you're asking this here - GOG is not the publisher of NWN2. According to the store page that's Hasbro Inc., but I doubt they have any employees scanning this forum for requests to re-release the game on Steam. ;)

There might be some legal issues involved, too, as I suppose there was a good reason why it got removed from Steam in the first place. I guess we should be thankful it's still available on GOG, at least, for whatever reason.

Did they (Atari) run out of keys or something for the Steam-version?
Did it have Securom or some sort of other additional DRM over there?

From what I can gather, it seems to be related to legal issues between Atari and Hasbro. I take it, Atari was the publisher on Steam and Hasbro revoked the license or something. That was in 2012, and NWN2 came to GOG in 2013, with Hasbro as the publisher. No idea though, why Hasbro couldn't re-release the game on Steam as well. Maybe the prior deal with Atari somehow prevented them from doing it?

I'm guessing the only way it happens is if Beamdog have the rights and do a EE version

They already said they currently have no plans for that, also because they are not familiar with the engine, IIRC. There was a Twitter post by Trent Oster or Beamdog about it, I think, I've read it myself but have trouble locating it now, as it's drowned in hopeful threads and posts by fans wishing for a NWN 2 EE. The only thing I found for now is this:

When asked whether there are any other classic RPGs the company is looking at for enhancements, the Beamdog head said that he believes they've "done what we set out to do" and "reached the end of the line on the titles we wanted to do personally." He noted that for certain games they originally were interested in but didn't end up enhancing, the legal scenarios around them are "too onerous."
