I just installed NWN2, and i'm currently choosing my build to play the OC and the MotB. After some tought, I decided on playing a ranged Rogue 5/Assassin 7/Cleric 5/Assassin +2/Shadow Thief of Ann 1, to abuse some cheese using the Pratic Metamagic: Extend from the Kaedrin Prc Pack. This build should get me 9d6 Sneak Attack, 15 Bab, HiPS, all the extend spell cheese, namely Extended Divine Favor+Divine Power @lv 17, and some really nice utility through the assassin spells added by Kaedrin.

I'm worried about the amount of sneak-attack immune enemies, however. I used a HiPS ranged rogue in NWN1 HotU and it was painfull, with golens and undead everywhere. I'll end up strangling someone if I have to healbot my way out of another demilich/dracolich. This build, however, is much more flexible than what I used before, and nwn2 allows you to lv and controll your followers, so it may not be so bad.

So, how bad is the OC/MotB to Sneak Attack based characters?

You've miscalculated your BAB.
Rogue 5 = +3
Assassin 9 = +6
Cleric 5 = +3
SToA 1 = +0
= 12 BAB at level 20

You appear to be counting fractions of BAB. This is a very common houserule for the pen and paper game, where the BAB totals are added together first and then rounded down. The official D&D rules are that the BAB from individually classes are rounded down and then added together. The NWN series implements the official rules. You'll effectively get rounded down 4 times with this build, which is pretty catastrophic.

I'd personally recommend the much simpler Rogue 5 -> Assassin 8 -> Rogue 7 approach. There are plenty of spellcaster companions in NWN2 that can buff you, so there's little need to do it yourself.

There are a lot of undead in both campaigns, although there is an epic feat ("epic precision") that will mitigate this problem in MotB. However, you need at least 10 levels of Rogue to qualify for this epic feat.

You definitely can get by these undead-heavy areas with the aid of other party members, so it won't be frustrating as in NWN1.

Ouch. Good to know.

It won't hurt so much after I get extended Divine Power, tough. And until then, I can solve the BA defcit by taking an early 1lv dip into cleric around lv 9 and get the planning domain (free Extend Spell) and Practiced Metamagic: Extend. That way, I'll be extending Divine Favor and compensating the lost BA. Won't have an awesome duration, but I can manage that. Then again, it would delay HiPS even more. I guess I have to work more on this build.

The problem with having the companions buff the party is that the best buffing spells seems to have personal range. Also, woldn't I lose 1d6 SA by finishing at rogue12/assassin 8? It seems worth to trade +1 AB for +3,5 damage.

Ouch again. I guess I'll roll a sorcerer and call it a day.

It'll still only last 2 minutes with the extend metamagic, and be mindful that in Mask of the Betrayer resting is very limited.

Fair enough, but there are still plenty of good ones (haste, for instance) that will work wonders.

A perfectly reasonable substitution.

Sorcerer works great.
