I googled about this and discovered Many people have reported this issue. Seems the game needs a patch but GOG doesn't have one. My GOG version of NWN2 is - Ver 1.0.23.1765

NOTE: If you google the following you will see what I'm talking about: (NWN2 AI stopped working)
Please get a patch for the game.

Discovered the Neverwinter Vault & it seems to have a lot to choose from but says it has patches: https://neverwintervault.org/rolovault/projects/nwn2/nwn2other/19/index.html

Looks like the initial file I need to upgrade the version of the GOG game is: nwn2_pc_english_from101807_to103835.zipnwn2_pc_english_from101807_to103835.zip

* Unfortunately that file isn't available. * The game must be upgraded in order to install the patch to fix the AI issue.

I need to get the AI working. Many times I don't need the AI but some fight scenes I need it where there's a killer spellcaster!!

Thanks in advance for your assistance! (I was going to submit issue to GOG tech support but for some reason they require a file upload to submit a request. I have Nothing to upload to them) :o/
Ver 1.0.23.1765 is the final patch version.
By AI not working, do you mean they stand there and not attack?
Have you tried pressing V then W, then F ?

Thanks for your reply OlNorton. I tried the V then W then F but the people with me still just stand there and won't fight unless I choose each one individually. The AI worked until I was in some dungeon - don't recall what part now but it worked for a very long time then the AI just stopped working.

My version is lower than that. :o/

No it isn't.
103835 is much lower than the final patch 1231765 which the GOG version is.

This page lists just the English versions of all the NWN2 patches.
The links to the files still work (including to the very early ----103835)
None of these patches will work with the GOG version, because it is already the final version.

Thanks for your reply again my friend.
I downloaded the version I have on Jan 30, 2020. I didn't see any notification of an updated file recently but then again, it's easy to accidentally click on a file in the game list which removes the tiny notification.

I will try downloading it again within the next day or two. Will also give an update but it took several days before the AI froze up. I can at least send an update sooner as far as letting you know what version was in my game list at GOG. Then later if I have issues I will return to update that.

Just checked the version of NeverWinter Nights 2 in my online game list which still is 1.0.23.1765 (installed) file from GOG is v2.2.0.10 (according to the download page) and that's the exact same version that is installed on my pc. I don't think downloading and reinstalling it again will really make much difference since the game worked fine for several days before the AI suddenly stopped working.

I'm still busy downloading files and just sent info to Tech Support about an issue with another game and will create a ticket for this one also.

The only reason I didn't contact support in the first place is because I read about the NWN2 patches and thought I could find out from someone where I might locate it.

Why does everyone call it 1231765 when it is really 1.023 1765?

that's pretty confusing for new players....

that's like over 1000 versions different.

At the very least ppl might assume 1.23 vs 1.023 , which is like 20 versions different.

I mean 10231765 for shorthand I can understand...but this? what's up?

It was confusing back in the day, but it's Obsidians game, and that's how they named their patches.
But new players don't need to worry about patches, because the final patch was released in 2006, and GOG didn't start selling the game until January 2013, so they have only ever sold the fully patched final version of the game.
