Greetings !

When NwN2 came out on GoG, I tried it almost right away. Alas, there was some kind of Alzheimer problem with the saves : they somehow "forgot" your progress, making it impossible to travel to new places or to complete quests (the NPC would talk to you as if you just encoutered him, for example, whereas you came to finish the quest).

A solution was proposed on the forum, by engaging admin mode on every .exe file of the game. It worked for a while for me, before failing again, near the end of Chapter 1. Since it was my 5th attempt, I lost courage to do this act again.

I searched the forum, and didn't find anything new on this matter. So my question is : is this bug solved via a new patch, a remedy or something ? Or does it still happen ?

Thanks in advance, have a nice day.
I never encountered this problem (only had NWN2 in the last 18 months)
Latest gog version is 1.69 - which one are you running?

If you already have the installer (From that time) check the version number, currently is 2.1.0 (in your videogame library), if you didn't find anything recently in the forum, probably the latest patch is free of the problem.

Caution: The 1.69 version is the last official patch release for the game by ATARI, The Gog version is a different number that you can check in your games library and in the installer name.
Well well, if I read it correctly, I am running a very old 1.023 version ! A clean uninstall / redownload should clear the problem and help me discovering the game.

Thank you both for your help, my lords, I'll keep you informed !

No.
1.0.23.1765 is the last version of NWN2 (1.69 in NWN1)
A clean uninstall
Disable your Antivirus software
Run the NWN2setup as administrator.
Do not install in ProgramFiles x86.....
Re-enable your antivirus software (but give NWN an exception.)
Then right click on Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2 -Properties-Security & make sure your log in username is listed as having full control.

The problems you describe have to do with permissions or overzealous antivirus software.

If you use AVG you will need to disable AVG self protection.
^Oops, yeah - 1.69 is NWN1

But in NWN2 downloads on gog - what's the 'Universal Update 2.01 -> 2.10" ?
Is that not the version number?
(NB: that's not needed for a fresh download, only for updating a previous download)

That is GOG's installer version.
The universal update is for people who installed with 2.01 & want the benefit of the 2.10 installer package
(whatever that was) without having to download the full package.

The game version , you check by holding your mouse over nwn2main.exe & it will show File version 1.0.23.1765
^Ah, ok. Cheers :)
(can't check my game version - it's on the broken pc - hopefully getting a new one soon)
Saves are most definitely still bugged, although I am unable to determine why. I actually went in and checked the save files, and the event flags ARE being saved, but somehow all events are reset when I reload.

And your Username has full control of Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2 ?
Do you have anything in the Event Viewer than coincides with when you installed the game, or when you run it?

I need to say that I begin to play the game again with Windows 8.1 and don't give me any problem, so probably your problem is a isolated one :/

Yes, no, and no.
