When setting the resolution to 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz I get no GUI at all in game, because it looks like the screen isn't scaling properly (the options menu is off centre). 1280 x 720 shows me part of the GUI, but the only resolution I've found shows me everything is 1024 x 760, but that just looks rough as hell.

Any ideas how to get the game displaying properly at 1920 x 1080? I've spent an hour searching for this particular problem but couldn't find reference to it (plenty of issues around resolution in general though). I have Windows 8 and an AMD 270X card.

This is might be connected to your font size settings. Make sure you don't scale fonts in Windows.
Go to “Settings" => “Display.
The option is called "Change the size of all items". Try a smaller setting.
Apply the changes, sign out of Windows and back in.
Try NWN again.

That's genius, thanks!

The next question is, can I have that setting apply to this game, and not everything else on my desktop?

You're welcome! You could try disabling DPI scaling in the compatibility settings. Go to the game's folder, right-click NWN.exe, select Properties and go to the Compatibility tab. There tick the checkbox for "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". That turns off automatic resizing of programs if large font sizes are used. Start the game with NWN.exe.

An alternative workaround could be to create a new user on your system, exclusively for the game. Log in as this user, set the display settings so, that they're working for NWN and play the game. This way, your main user account can keep it's display settings, but you'll have to switch users for playing.

For some reason this doesn't work if launched from the Galaxy Client.

Not sure, what you are referring too....

AND WHY, really WHY for focks sake, why is it getting so common nowadays to just whine: it ain't working.....????

Like here: Two things are mentioned here....so shall we now guess? Don't forget, YOU are not paying us for it, so why shall we even bother answering? Did you also ever think this a bit further?

With this attitude you do make people more unwilling to help others? Did this thought ever come across?

And as another blow :P
You say you are a GNU/Linux GOGer.....hmmmm.....are you sure ? :P

Now as a guess to your problem:
As Galaxy is using its own way of starting the programs:
a.) It might not be possible
b.) you might have to point it to the exe itself instead of the launcher (not sure in this case where Galaxy points too, you would need to check the settings for this game in galaxy) Those properties as mentioned in post 4 are bound JUST to the exe, not the launcher. Maybe you might have to create another shortcut for it.....
c.) do not use Galaxy :P (Yes I really couldn't resist this one :D )

For the sake of solving the problem, I'll ignore your obnoxious comments and go straight to the point.

a) maybe
b) I don't know how to change which executable Galaxy it's working. There's no option to change it. I add that dpi option to every executable on the nwn diamond, also the shortcut. Running directly trough nwnmain.exe or the shortcut (also pointed to nwnmain.exe) works fine. So I really don't understand.how games are started trough Galaxy.
c) funny, I need the cloud saves.

I found two worakarounds:

- change the scaling from the display window to 100%
- run the game trought nwnmain.exe and then just run "play" and then exit to sync the saves.

Sorry, just having had like 3? of the same in a row ;)

what might help you, you just have to find those files mentioned in this thread (sorry ;) )

www.gog.com/forum/general/adding_external_games_to_galaxy

With a bit of tweaking you shall be able to change (hmmm....twice the same???....sorry too much beer :P ) to point galaxy to the right file, so the one which you changed.

I think (no, not meant ironical ;) ) as cesara gave a really good description in his thread, you will be able to find and adapt the file.
I must say I am a bit perplexed why changing the exe-files did not change the behaviour......unless....

Microsoft Application application toolkit (sorry not joking....the name MS did choose for it) might override certain things. I must admit, despite playing around with it, I never really figured out what overrides what and when, but it seems to be in called functions the toolkit takes precedence while with a direct call the user-settings do override it.
If you need help with this *cough* wonderful toolkit, just say so ;)

c.) Sorry? good? to hear ;)
just in case: send.firefox.com
just saying ;)

display settings of windows as workaround?
hmmmmm......just as information....if I would now remember which games.....some games do have problems if you do re-scale windows.

If you do find that the toolkit is causing the problem, please inform me or support (either directly or via mantis) as this would be a problem with galaxy mainly.

Hope it helps ;)
