Hello, I attempted to move my saves folder for NWN2 by editing the nwn, nwn2, and goglog ini file so that

SAVES = D:\My Documents\Games\Neverwinter Nights 2\saves

I tried this with and without the spaces in the file path. However, the game just keeps generating

D:\My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2.

How can I force it to take the first option and not the second?

Edit the Target Field of the shortcut you use to launch the game by adding -home "D:\My Documents\Games\Neverwinter Nights 2" after "E:\Games\NWN2 Complete\nwn2.exe" (or where ever your game is installed)
Put a space between the exe" and the -home

Sadly, that didn't work. I did a quick test play and hit save, but now the save game doesn't go anywhere that I can tell. It's not going to the preferred folder or any folder. When I go to the Load menu, there's no game there at all. When I first installed the game I made a test save in my preferred file path, and no matter what, NWN2 never, ever, sees that save, or any that I made since I began troubleshooting.

It's odd, because the ini edits and your -home path solution worked just fine for NWN Diamond.

Did you use some compatibility settings on NVN Diamond?
I checked in the NVN2exe:

CURRENTGAME.CURRENTCAMPAIGN.SAVES....\%s....%s%s*.%s

That's what it says for it (or at least what I found ;)

Can you put up a screenshot of the edit you made to the target field.

Okay. I don't know how to make the dialogue box wider, so the screenshot is in two parts. The first part shows the -home switch, the second image shows the file path.

I didn't do anything to NWN Diamond, just the ini file path change and the home switch going specifically to "Neverwinter Nights Diamond" (instead of Neverwinter Nights). With NWN2, naming the file path to Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete didn't make any difference. I'm not sure how you examine an exe file; I just used the ini files.

I think your problem stems from installing the game in the C:\Programs(86)... protected folder.
I would uninstall the game and then install it in C:\Games\NWN2 Complete.
If your moving your saved games folder to free up space on your C: drive, then install the game on your D: drive as well.
But the game will still need free space on your C: drive to load maps and saves in the temp folder.
For the same reason, I would remove My Documents from your chosen switch path & just go with D:\Games\Neverwinter Nights 2

Actually no....
Just had a look at my install, not using the stupid x86 folder and it is as described in documents/games folder...

Short info for the dreaded x86 folder: It was MS-attempt to distinguish between 32 and 64 bit programs. x86 being 32-bit. But it is just not working because of permission rights and similar. Hence for games, don't bother using it in general. Programs might work.....

If you are not familiar with it, don't use it!!!

One thing I don't understand, after re-reading....

Why is it not doing it in my games?
Would sound that you did not specify my games (or didn't map it over) to D: I assume. Hence why NVN is using the document-folder.

So I would suggest that you check the mapping....
(For me on Win 8.1 and unchanged mapping of the default win-folders)

And olnorton, that would also explain why the home option ain't working.....
