The Linux binaries from Bioware work with the gog installation, just tried (with Ubuntu 10.04 x64). I had to run the gog installer in windows/wine though, couldn't figure out how to extract the files from the installer manually. Here are the linux binaries.
What I did:
1) copy windows installation
2) extract nwcliendgold.tar.gz over the installation (not sure if this is needed)
3) extract nwclienthotu.tar.gz over the installation
3) extract English_linuxclient169_xp2.tar.gz over the installation
4) run fixinstall in nwn directory
5) replace nwncdkey.ini with the one from the gog installation if it was overwritten in 2)

The CD keys probably won't work online though, but this should help with that.

If I follow the Biowave page, then I should download a 1.1Gb file called nwnresources.tar.gz.
Also a 0.5Gb patch file to update to 1.69. Is it from these you extracted onto the install directory of the game? Or is it enought to simply get the client?

Not sure if I will break the GOG install by installing the resources as it might require another CD key.

I don't find the nwcliendgold.tar.gz anywhere.

I think the nwnresources.tar.gz has only stuff that comes in the GOG installation so it's not needed. What I did was copied the windows installation, "Installing From An Existing Windows Install" on the Bioware site. I wasn't as picky with the files as their example, just copied everything.

You do need the 0.5GB linux HotU patch though, it has the newest version of the linux executable. nwclientgold.tar.gz and nwclienthotu.tar.gz have some files that do not come in the patch so those are also needed. nwclient129.tar.gz doesn't have anything useful compared to nwclientgold.tar.gz

You need to log in / sign up to the Bioware site to see the binaries' download links. (nwclientgold.tar.gz etc )

I don't get it to work I have tried all ways now. It loads something and sound is coming but everything locks. Running the game through wine works in fact better so far.

I'm using an Asus eee !000H and so far even with wine it runs very nicely! Which is very nice since most games demand more CPU power. However, if running the linux client would improve on the game speed I'm willing to try more.

Thanks Angs. Everything works like a charm in Slackware64.
If anyone has sound issues, you can edit the LD_PATH in the nwn start up script.
great !!
works perfect on my eee 1000he running crunchbang

uname -a Linux minimeee 2.6.28-19-generic #66-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 17:39:04 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

yey!!

edit: btw i also had a peek at this one: http://goo.gl/zrS8N
it is a guide to do this with the dvd version, dont need it for anything but links if you have the gog version

dont forget to install the critical rebuild to get all the files right, before copying over the files to make a linux install
I did this a couple weeks ago.

I downloaded nwclient129.tar.gz and extracted it to ~/games. I installed the Gog version through wine, and moved the installed files mentioned here under Installing From An Existing Windows Install to ~/games/nwclient129/

But since that gives you version 1.29, I downloaded the Linux version of 1.69, and extracted that into ~/games/nwclient129/
Note that you want the topmost Linux patch. In the far left column it will say "NWN: Hordes of the Underdark (English) (also for Platinum/ Diamond editions)"

I ran fixinstall which came from the nwclient129.tar.gz package and ran the game.
So if I get this right I should do the following things in succession:
1) copy windows installation
2) use Critical_Rebuild (not compatible with Gog version)
3) Use module reinstaller (Gog)
4) extract nwcliendgold.tar.gz over the installation
5) extract nwclienthotu.tar.gz over the installation
6) extract English_linuxclient169_xp2.tar.gz over the installation
7) run fixinstall in nwn directory
8) replace nwncdkey.ini with the one from the gog installation if it was overwritten in 2)
9) install ia32-libs if needed
10) Play the game!

Is this the correct sequence, or is the the Gog module reinstaller incompatible with the later steps?

I've tried it out, these were the steps I needed for my setup:
1) Run the setup from Gog in Wine
2) Copy the nwncdkey.ini that the Gog installer created to a safe place
3) extract nwcliendgold.tar.gz over the installation
4) extract nwclienthotu.tar.gz over the installation
5) extract English_linuxclient169_xp2.tar.gz over the installation
6) run fixinstall in nwn directory
7) replace nwncdkey.ini with the one from the Gog installation
8) install ia32-libs if needed
9) Go into Nvidia Setup, disable my 2nd screen, click apply and log in/ out of my account.
10) Play the game!
It seems like the patches are no longer available from bioware site :( Any idea where one could get them?
Well, do not forget my how-to.

About where to find the critical rebuild patch, try here:

My downloads just now came from:

http://nwdownloads.bioware.com/neverwinternights/linux/gold/nwclientgold.tar.gz
http://nwdownloads.bioware.com/neverwinternights/linux/161/nwclienthotu.tar.gz
http://na.llnet.bioware.cdn.ea.com/u/f/eagames/bioware/neverwinternights/updates/linux/169/English_linuxclient169_xp2.tar.gz
This is great, thanks. All of the links in practically all other threads are broken now. I guess Bioware switched the hyperlinks not too long ago
