I'm happy to say I just saved and got Neverwinter. It's been years and I'm excited to see it again. :> I just wonder how many issues my attempt to install and run will have. I use Win7 x64 and an Nvidia card that is going to be overpowered for a game that old. So I've read this forum and made a list of what I should do and look out for, like update video drivers. What I wonder is: Do I need the 1.69 critical patch? Is it essential or good or only needed for certain systems?

Thanks

Optimally, you should not need it at all. The game already runs 1.69 when it is installed.

Be sure to install in the non-default location. And then make your own shortcut to NWNmain.exe (I'm pretty sure that's the file -- I don't have it in front of me) and run it in admin mode, xp SP2 compatibility mode. That should do it for you.

Also, I have a high end system, but with the new tilesets, you'll see that they require a lot more beef to run well.

Very good, will do. But I don't know what you mean "install in the non-default location." All my other GOG games are in the GOG.com folder. You're saying I should not use that location in this case? Does it matter where I put it?

I've made a list of every tip I see people give on these forums like turn off shiny water, etc. Hoepfully I won't need them =)

Thx again

When using Vista or Windows 7, various problems can be avoided if you install older software (especially games) to a folder outside of Program Files, e.g. c:\games\nwn.

This is what Tallima was referring to as 'non-default'.
Thanks a ton. I will go ahead with this install as soon as I get home. + rep to both of you! =)
Guide to installing nwn

Have fun :)
