I installed Neverwinter Nights Diamond (GOG version) and the intro videos don't scale to full screen. The game itself runs fine in desktop resolution, and also scales to full screen if I set it lower than that. (as set in the Geforce control panel)

My specs: Win 10 v1709, 970 GTX, DirectX9: installed, Directplay: On, Geforce Control Panel: scale to full screen [aspect ratio], resolution set in game: 2560x1440, not installed in any Windows related folder.

The intro movies play centered at their original resolution (640x480). Why don't they scale to full screen?

if I set it to Win98 compatibility, the movies do scale to full screen but don't keep aspect ratio (=they stretch from 4:3 to 16:9).

In your NWN directory:

nwn.ini

[Display Options]
FullScreen=1
Width=1920
Height=1200
BitsPerPixels=32
RefreshRate=60
TexturePack=3
SafeMovie=1
Disable Intro Movies=1
UseLargeFont=1

Set the bold option to 1, and movies scale to full screen. I also suggest disabling the intro movies like I have done, as it makes startup more stable.

Thanks, but no, that's not doing it...

I don't know what you mean with stable, startup is fine except for the non-scaling movies.

Ok, Safemovie makes the "in game" movies go full screen. I thought that is what you wanted.

But you want the into advertisements full screen. Can't help you there. I shut them off because they are just annoying, and they do sometimes cause start up issues.

I don't really care about the logos. With SafeMovie=1, when I select a movie from the main screen, it doesn't play full screen.

Yeah, it doesn't affect the menu movie players.

But if you start a new game, just select a random character because you aren't saving it.

With Safemovie the movies in the actual game should scale to full screen.

I just tested it.
Playing from the menu -> small movie in center of screen.
Starting a new game -> full screen scaled movie.

I still wonder what's causing this... Last time I played it (a couple of years ago in Windows 7) all movies (also in the menu) scaled fine.

Edit: I just checked it, in-game the movies don't scale keeping their aspect ratio (=they're stretched on 16:9).

Right you are. I never noticed before. My monitor is 16:10, so the degree of stretch was not enough on those low quality movies for me to notice the aspect was off. I still prefer stretched mode to postage stamp in the center of screen.

About why you didn't have this issue before, I would bet it was because you played at a lower resolution back then.

Safemovie = 0: Movie plays at native 800x600 resolution with black bars surrounding to make up the difference to game resolution.

Safemove = 1: Movie is stretched to match game resolution.

If you were playing closer to 800x600 game resolution, movies would be closer to full screen size.

It was 1680x1050, so not that close, and not stretched (it don't like it on 16:10 either)...

Memory can be selective.

NWN either stretches to full screen, or it plays at original size.

Those are the only two options and neither will do what you want.

I suppose you're right...

I found one other option:
- Manually scale the bik files with RAD video tools. For my resolution; convert all videos to the nearest 4:3 variant - 1920x1440. (and set Safemovie = 0)
hmm... it doesn't work. :-(

The built in BIX player is likely VERY limited.

Maybe the new updated NWN:EE has better scaling for movies. IIRC they changed the format of the movies, so they almost certainly have a new player.
