Hello guys,

I have just installed the game for the first time on win 7 32bit. My problem is that the ingame video right after character creation is not showing. I only hear the sound. Is there a solution four this problem?

I use an Ati 4890 video card.

This will be my first time ever playing nwn. I'm pretty exited about it.
Welcome to the forums!

This is a common problem, and there are a few ways to fix it.

One would be to add Disable visual themes and disable desktop composition under the compatibility settings on nwn.exe and nwmain.exe

If that doesn't work, you can download the bink video player and that should fix your problems, you can find it here: http://radgametools.com/

You can also use the bink video player to watch them if they wont play during the game, its not ideal, but it works. If you want, you can also search around the web, I've seen a lot of other answers, but these two were the most common.

Non of it worked. But thanks anyway.

I think I'll install Win XP to get rid of all the compatibility crap.

The issue is mentioned in a roundabout way in the game's README, found in main game directory. I quote:
"If you are having slow movie playback under Windows 98 or Windows ME
you can edit the "SafeMovie=1" entry in your nwn.ini file to "SafeMovie=0".
This will improve playback speed in-game but may introduce problems
where the sound plays but the movie's visuals do not. We mention this purely
as an option for the advanced user."

Apparently, the GoG version has it set to "0" by default. Switching it back to "1" got the visuals back. Turning CPU Affinity to "All Cores" fixed the stuttering.

Where is the CPU Affinity at? I found the safe movie entry and changed that but can't find CPU affinity anywhere.

It is in nwnplayer.ini, which is in your main install folder (which should be on C drive for best performance). It opens with notepad. Set it to -2 if you are on vista. On windows 7 I haven't heard of it causing any issues, tho ymmv of course.

Good Luck :)

Excluding myself, of course.

This worked for me thanks, I can now see the videos when playing the campaign and that is enough for me, should be enough for other players aswell, can't properly stream intro, logos and campaign videos from the main menu though, only sound. +1

Hmmm... didn't work for me.

As it is now, the game is pretty much unplayable as none of the videos play and the sound is stuttering on and off.

Anyone else have any other suggestions? Thanks.
I thought this was a problem with the bink32.dll file. For ATI cards you had to download the new file. Look at this link under Video don't play.

I don't have an ATI card, so it's not that :)

My response was more for the OP who has an ATI card.

If you have an Nvidia card, especially if it is older, it needs to be compatible with open GL, if you go to the Nvidia site and download the most recent update, it could fix your issue. Your issue could also be Direct X related. I cannot find the post, but NWN 1 is compatible with Direct X 9 and some later versions don't run well with NWN. There is an update that would add the necessary files, I think from June 2010. If I can find the post, I will edit this post.

Good luck.

NVidia card is pretty new :)

I've finally managed to get the game running with video and sound by changing some settings and then starting it from nwmain.exe. If I start it from the desktop icon, no video, no sound. If I start it from nwmain.exe, video and sound. Weird, eh?

But.....now it's running in a teeny tiny window in the middle of the screen. I've changed my screen resolution from both my desktop and from the main menu of the game itself so they both match -- but still no full screen. Don't think I can play this game in a 5 inch by 5 inch square :)
Just start her up and once she's open hit Alt+Enter.
Finally got it to run again in Window mode by re-imputting the info I gave in the post above, but it looks like I'm going to have to do this every time I shut my computer down as it's not saving it beyond the immediate save.

Very buggy game so far.
