So, I'm having an issue wherein the nwmain application is straining the hell out of my CPU and is hogging an inordinate amount of energy usage -- we're talking ~150% for both.
Now, I know MacBooks aren't known for their gaming prowess, but my late 2013 MBP's hardware is more than capable and shouldn't be exerting itself to this level to run the game -- for what it's worth, I appear to be having a similar issue with Divinity: Original Sin.
My specs:
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
macOS Mojave
I'm not sure if the new OS is the culprit, but I have taken some measures that ought to reduce the strain on my machine:
1. Lowered all graphics options to the minimum settings
2. Changed the refresh rate in the nwn.ini to 30 (originally was 60)
3. Killed all GoG Galaxy processes, including the Overlay
4. Tried all asset quality options (16MB, 32MB, 64MB)
Nothing seems to be alleviating the stress. Even at the menu screen we're looking at well over 100% CPU and energy usage. I know the Enhanced Edition is going to be a bit more resource-hungry than the original (which I know is Windows-only), but there is absolutely no reason that it's demanding this amount of resource-allocation.
I do apologize if this concern is addressed elsewhere, but after a couple of days of searching these forums (and many others) I haven't been able to locate any discussion regarding this issue. I know I could merely use my Windows-based desktop, but I already have multiple versions of NWN and was really looking forward to having the ability to play it on my MBP without having to resort to Diamond version third-party workarounds. Any help is greatly appreciated -- and if any more information is needed, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks everyone!
