Hi guys and gals!
I'm having trouble to set up a multiplayer NWN2 game with my friend over the internet. He has the Steam Platinum version and I just purchased the EE GOG version. If we try direct connect it just won't work. We aren't sure if it is due to config issues with our routers, but if one of us creates a game it also won't appear on the server list of internet games. So we don't have a clue.

Is there a compatibility problem between our versions?

If not, how must we create the game? It is just the two of us, so we don't care if it is Direct Connection or creating a public game that will show on the servers; or even creating a VPN (whatever that is). Whichever option will work for us and steps will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance to whomever spends their time replying.

By Platinum edition, do you mean an enhanced edition or regular?

The very easiest way to play is setting up a VPN between your two computers. However, you should also be able to play without a VPN.

First, make sure you all have the same version of game. I don't know what it's at now (I'm away from home) but it should say, I think on the menu screen. Maybe bottom right.

You may have to set up your firewall, too. Your software firewall should allow the program to run (in Windows, there's usually a pop up that tells you that some features were blocked and it asks if you want to allow it).

Your hardware firewall will be in your router. You will likely need to forward some ports. Normally, your firewall may block those ports to avoid attacks. But you want to use those ports'communication at your PC. Each version behaves s little differently. You and your friend will likely need to do this before your have works: https://portforward.com/neverwinter-nights-enhanced-edition/

If it's still not working, let us know. Reply to my message so I see it. I don't prowl the subforums much as in did in my youth. :)

Edit: see below. I didn't realize you put nwn2. All of my instructions person to playing NWN:EE. NWN2 is a completely different game.

There isn't an enhanced edition (EE) of NWN2. Are you sure you're both playing the same game?

Dude. I am incredibly stupid and blind and can't read shit. I bought NWN1 Enhanced and spent a week trying to set up a game with my friend until I found out I'd bought the wrong game... Countless hours surfing for tutorials on how to set up multiplayer, answers as to why we couldn't make it work, etc. You can just imagine the "Enhanced" jokes I now have to endure...
