Chapter 2 goes more into the country/forest.

IMO the OC isn't quite a bad a people make it out to be.

Chapter 1 is the most tedious/cheesy part, but still worth playing once as an intro to the game. It gets better in Chapter 2/3.
Thanks. I will look forward to that

It's not bad if you treat it as a standalone game. The problem is that before NWN we've had marvelous games in the Forgotten Realms setting (and one in the Planescape) which are out of reach for the OC. The implemented D&D mechanics are great however and it's definitely worth playing at least one time.

What do you mean "which are out of reach for the OC" ?

I meant that the BG1, BG2 and PT campaigns are much better than the NWN original campaign in every aspect. It’s hard to believe that BG2 and NWN campaigns were done by the same company.

It's not terrible but pretty bland, due to its length and all the hacking, slashing and excessive looting, and the main story just makes you a pawn in (or witness to) other people's stories, and pretty stupid people at that, without giving you any options to prevent their predictable stupidity. And not only were there better stories in classic RPGs before, but also in lots of epic and well written user made modules for NWN that you could play instead.

That being said, there is fun to be had in the OC, there are some nice side quests and locations, IIRC. It's just that the sum of all its parts isn't that interesting. IMO, YMMV.

NWN OC is a good, solid game. The problem is that they tried to mimic Diablo's success and changed lots of mechanics to that style. Like random and lots of loot, solo playstyle, more hack and slash etc. So people who prefered Baldur's gate found it lacking in style and who loved Diablo 2 found it lacking it action (Even tho you automatically reach level 3, low levels in D&D are not fun for hack and slash).

I loved both Baldur's Gate and Diablo 2 so I enjoyed NWN.
