I recently got this game at a Goodwill and for some reason, the game will not load despite doing all the known available tricks for it. Basically, I double click the game and it appears in the processes, but nothing happens. Tried renaming the nwmain.exe to something else, compatibility modes, even installing the DirectX June 2010 runtimes and nothing happens.

Anyone know what is going on?

Well, since it's a retail copy, did you upgrade it to the last build?

You may also want to try setting the CPU affinity to a single core. Open the file nwnplayer.ini in the main NWN folder, locate Client CPU Affinity and change the value to 1.

Just tried that and nothing, and yes the game is updated to that version.
When looking for help troubleshooting PC problems always try to list the information of that PC system.

Someone might see you have certain hardware/driver/operating system/game version, and know of a problem and suggest something.

For instance Neverwinter Nights and ATi/AMD (newer cards / drivers) hate eachother, with a number of problems and solutions for most. I probably don't remember half of them but someone else might if that's the case.
Decided to bump this and with the recent GOG giveaway of NWN I decided to try again and the game fails to load at all still.

For those who want the specs to help with my issue, here they are:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
16 GB of RAM
Intel Core i7 4770k Processor clocked at 3.5 GHz
NVIDIA GTX 770 with 4GB of VRAM

I am not sure what is causing the issue still, and still would love to have an answer. The already mentioned methods, compatibility, updating to latest build, run on a single core, still does not work at all for me. IT still appears in the processes but never loads at all.

You could try editing your nwn.ini
SafeMovie=1
DisableSound=1

If it starts then, it will give you some idea of what the problem is.
Do you get error warnings in event viewer when you try to run the game?

HOLY CRAP, it related to my sound card. I have a Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium installed in my tower and the game was refusing to load without Creative Alchemy wrapping the game up for me. Thank you a million, when I get the chance I shall enjoy this classic now with all the fixes, and of course glorious EAX sound.
