Taro94: I, too, was skeptical about it, but I think we can give Beamdog the benefit of doubt here.
1. Slowly, but Beamdog has been learning from their mistakes - for example, they haven't touched P:T's story and characters in any way like they did with BG, and they don't intend to do this in case of NWN:EE.
2. They've recruited prominent members of the community: one of the programmers is niv, the admin of NWN Vault (who often pays for the maintenance of the website out of his own pocket, so we can rest assured he has the good of the game and the community in mind) and Shadooow, the Community Patch's author. When asked, both were happy about their collaboration with Beamdog and both seem to believe NWN:EE will be a step in the right direction for the game and its community.
3. They've opened up suggestion threads on their forums, so that community can propose their ideas. Sure, that may be a PR stunt and nothing else, but I'm sure at least some of them (like niv) care.
I opposed much of what Beamdog did earlier, such as all this SJW crap, but people change and so do companies - especially when they meet with such backlash. Of course, this will still be a bitter-sweet treat to some extent, because I'm sure the NWN:DE will be removed from the store and bundled with the EE.
Still, let's try to see some positive sides - and don't pretend there are none. NWN will get a chance to be reborn, technical support will be back, premium modules previously not legally obtainable anywhere will be purchasable again, the game's development and bugfixing will continue, the game will become available on Steam, further increasing its popularity, etc.
Also, let's not forget that whereas BG, IWD, PT were games, NWN is much more like a game engine. It's not that important for BG to have every bug fixed, because people play it once and then at most return to it some time later to play once more. NWN, on the other hand, hosts a number of micro-MMOs and offers hundreds of community-made adventures. As such, stuff that didn't matter that much in previous EEs (such as bug fixing and optimization) are exponentially more important in NWN.
There really are things to be joyful - or at least hopeful - about.
Too long, didn't read - let's just give Beamdog the benefit of doubt here, because I think everyone will agree with me when I say this endeavor at least has the potential to be something great!
Forcing people to buy their re-releases is just so anti consumer I cant bring myself to give them a break.
