If you're looking for a PW Story server, however, you could try City of Arabel. It's a roleplaying-focused setting that's low magic and low-level (commonly reach around 8-9, 12 is possible but with a lot of effort).

This review says it all: Longevity through Customization

Posted on 2010-10-27 14:59:03 by Mattoco's avatar Mattoco:

For a game to still have a player base after 8 years, the true strength and versatility of Bioware's Aurora engine and capabilities of the associated Toolset have enabled persistent world (think MMO on a smaller scale, but free to play!) developers to bring their own stories to life through custom content and scripting. There are even persistent worlds such as Higher Ground that read more have gone above and beyond the game's original functionality to bring new features and gameplay mechanics to the game.
If you're looking for a great single player experience, it will become apparent by going through these reviews that the so-called "vanilla NWN" does not have much to offer. Instead, look to the custom single player modules, or to the online persistent worlds where players share in the adventure together! Where dungeon masters and developers have spent hours, months, or years crafting an immersing and engaging game world for you to explore! Players of all dispositions are certain to find something to entertain them, from the hardcore role player, to the casual hack and slasher, to the competitive arena warrior!
If you're a D&D buff, or like many NWN players simply enjoy a great custom RPG experience, there is no better offer out there for the content available, both directly through this download and from all of the user created custom content over the years that can be downloaded for FREE! Gathering your dice and figurines around the table to play out your latest adventure has now transformed into gathering your computers up for a LAN party or making new friends by venturing into the many online game worlds!
As an aside, it has been reported that the CD Key that comes with this download will not work online; follow this link and select "multiplayer key request" under "I have a problem with:", after purchasing Neverwinter Nights so that it can be selected as the Game Title: http://www.gog.com/en/support/contact/technical_issues_with_games/
Maybe we can all exchange Skype, or something? Find a time to talk about when to play?
I have a Vent server we can use, I work for the Ambulance service here in the uk so im often around weird times which may make playing with others in different timezones a bit easier, not really sure how we can exchange contact info as the forums dont seem to have any private message function.

Never used Vent before, I'll need some help with that.

These forums really need PMs.
I'd like to join the multiplayer group as well :)

GMT+1 here. I'll be able to play at any time of the day/night in most weekends. :)

Might have a friend who'd like to join in on the fun as well.

Ventrillo seems to be the VoIP of choice for most people in MMOs. Here's a link to their website:

I hope this helps.
Seems like we have quite a few people, which is cool! However, the mod we were thinking of playing (Eye of the Beholder remake) gets a little tricky experience-wise with more than 4 people. So either we deal with that, find a different mod, or narrow it down to 3 others besides myself.

I see there are three people in the GMT+1 time zone, which might make it easier for you to synchronize between yourselves and then with me.

Also, I downloaded Vent, so we can give that a shot.

This could be really exciting and fun if we can get it to work!

This thread brings a question to mind:

Is the GoG version of NWN compatible with previous versions?
Meaning, if I bust out my NWN Diamond dvd, will I be able to play a multiplayer game with the new influx of GoG-version players? Or would people using GoG's version only be able to play with each other?

The GoG version of NWN is version 1.69 with the SoU and HotU expansions, which was the latest "previous version" available via earlier retail options. Aside from the formality of requesting a multiplayer CD key so that your game will play nice with the Master Servers, there should be no compatibility issues between clients.

..."should" being the operative word. I'll probably grab the GoG version at some point when I install Windows 7 on this so that I can put that to the test for myself.
I see. So as long as the version numbers are the same, there shouldn't be a problem?

That would depend on the server that is being joined. If the client is missing content files that the server is using (such as hak files), then it will not be possible to connect to the server even though they may be running the same version of the game.

If a server is running off of a fresh install, there should be no issues--when custom content is added to the server, users must have that custom content if they wish to join the server. For the situation being discussed in this thread, any NWN player should be able to join a game server hosted by someone with GoG's version of NWN, since it should simply be a fresh install of the game with no custom content.
It's the weekend guys! We really need to communicate and see if anyone is available to play today or tomorrow.
I could play tonight (currently it's 19:30 here) if we can arrange something quickly. However, tomorrow I have way too much studying to do:(
