Okay, so I've had a hankering to return to this game lately, but I don't really want to play through the main story and expansions again.

What I'd LIKE to play is something that's a little light on story. Something less.... linear. Basically, I'd like to roll up a character, start in a town, and send them off into the wilderness to bash/riddle/scorch some heads.

No larger story necessary or wanted.


.....any suggestions?

A couple things spring to mind:

1) You could download a trainer module such as the Pretty Good Character Creator and just use the arena function to do some monster bashing.

2) I believe there are a number of persistent world modules available for DL. You can install them just like a regular single player module and play on that. Many don't require a DM and if there are any quests you can probably just ignore them and explore to your heart's content.

Thanks for the reply - I'm actually looking for something a little more... dungeon crawl than an arena in a character creator, and want to be independent of internet connection (although the PW idea is tempting...)

See, I might play non-stop for a few days, then put it down for several months. On linear campaigns I seldom remember what's going on. So I was hoping to find something large with a lot of little quests.

I've been doing some searching. Right now the most likely candidate I can find is Birthright of the North But I wondered if anyone out there has a similar suggestion?

Could try Endless Nights. A little excerpt from the description:
