It drew my attention that game is inspired by great literature. There is even White Whale and captain Ahab in game's descriptions and I'm interested how deep are the inspirations. Anyone knows? Is the game story somehow related to "Moby Dick"? Any quests related to the book or it was just blinking an eye by devs to Melville's fans?

The game reminds me "Sunless Sea" and I think these are positive connotations :)

Without spoiling too much of the story, I can tell you that the game is set after the events narrated in Moby Dick, so you play as Ishmael, the sole survivor of the Pequod disaster. The main story line is deeply related to Moby Dick and we hope the fans of the book will appreciate our attempt to link our story with characters and situations taken from the book.

Apart from the main story line, there are other side adventures to live related to other historical personalities, hidden around the world.

But regarding that hundred of events I read about - in general does the game offer classic storyline or is based on random events, more like roguelikes? In other words - is it possible to actually finish the game?

Yes, the game has an end. We have a RPG-like quests system to follow to complete the game. These quests are not random. Random events instead enrich your experience while sailing. Some of them are really random (and they can also trigger minor quests), but mainly they are based on the current situation of your ship and offer you challenges related to your choices and your traits (and the ones of your crew). I'll give you a very simple example: if you put a man with the "drunken" trait on the crow's nest, there is a chance one night he fell from the mast because he is too drunk, and so on. Some of them are simple, like the one I've mentioned, others pretty complex and "chained" together.
