Currently only the daily experimental builds of ScummVM support Myst.

I'd love to play this game on my android device and/or my mac. What are your experiences with ScummVM and Myst?

Thanks in advance!
I wouldn't recommend it right now. Most of the videos are somehow broken, i.e. play only sound, are out of sync or don't work at all. At least that's what I experienced when I tried it. Technically the game is playable from beginning to end, but it won't be much fun.
I'm waiting until they support it officially.
I tried it, and Channelwood had game-breaking bugs. Had to check with a walkthrough, and yep, I had done a puzzle correctly but the game wasn't registering it. Also saving and loading didn't seem to work. Seems to work for some people, though, so maybe it depends on your system (I was on OS X 10.5). You might have better luck.
i have not had any luck getting this to run on my Asus android tablet

Eh, well, thanks for that! I didn't know it was a similar engine. It would be nice to finally play myst on my openpandora. Myst on a PC really is not nice. I mean: either very small graphics, or very pixelated. No sitting and thinking on the couch with gf.
That would be so nice...
Hello everybody,

I own a physical myst compilation called "Myst trilogy".

Since myst and riven is unofficially supported by scummvm and that means you can play them on android and other systems like linux, which were not originally supported, I prefer to play them on my tablet with scummvm. Even in windows, using scummvm allows you to skip all the installation procedure and it also gives you new options like playing them on a window.

I tested myst 1, and everything seems to work quite fine. However the concrete compilation that I own seems to miss some files or it's simply incompatible with scummvm and residualvm on myst II & III.

I wonder if someone has already tested those games on those engine ports and if someone can give me feedback regarding this problem.

Kind Regards

No, it is not incompatible (got the same edition). You just need to copy ALL the required files into one directory. Some of the files are hidden in other directorys on the DVD so not all data files are in the myst2\data folder - some of them are in te main data folder as well. You have to search for them. I tested this with Riven and I am sure that Myst 3 will work the same. Much better than with the normal installation and without sound crackling :)
This is the only way I got Myst Masterpiece Edition to work.

I attempted to run it in Windows 7 64-bit but it would lock up roughly 10 minutes into playing every single time. I tried every Windows compatibility setting posted around this forum to no avail. The only thing I didn't do was delete QuickTime and replace it with an older version, because downgrading is not my cup of tea.

I just so happened to have a fully updated Debian VM running under VirtualBox, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

First I copied the GOG Games\Myst Masterpiece Edition directory into the VM.

I downloaded the latest nightly ScummVM source code from Github, compiled it (configure, make), and then ran the resulting binary.

I added a new game in ScummVM and pointed it to the Myst directory.

I fiddled a bit with the graphics settings (OpenGL, PC-9821 (236 Colors), fullscreen mode).

Turns out SDL has a bug in it so you have to run `export SDL_MOUSE_RELATIVE=0` before running ScummVM and then Myst. Otherwise, your mouse sensitivity is through the roof and playing is impossible.

Do all that, and Myst runs fantastic! ;) Hopefully someone will find this info helpful. Played over the weekend and just beat it tonight. Thanks GOG!

I'll bump this thread, because as of ScummVM 1.9.0 (released Oct. 17), ScummVM officially supports Myst and Myst Masterpiece Edition.

That's interesting. I can run any of the dvds on Windows 7 Home Premium just fine. No VM or anything.
This needs to be highlighted in some way. I had /NO CLUE/ Myst was a ScummVM game.. I don't associate the two at all! As a Linux user, I've been trying for years for Wine to support Myst, and for the past few years if I'd just known to try ScummVM I'd have been all set!

Please GoG, also consider packaging Myst: Masterpiece Edition with Scummvm for Linux. I'm not sure if your license will allow, but DANG. Apparently Riven is supported too.
I must be totally tone deaf. The first time I played MYS (original) I had a friend help with the settings on the spaceship. Alas and alack!! No such help today. Have spent over an hour tryting to get the tune right. Even have a cheat sheet from years ago. Guess the tune is NOT the same. Any suggestions? Know, besides the train ride (based on sounds, also) this is the hardest to solve! First game on this new, I accidentally went to the Gear Island. Will be stuck there, forever, I guess. Can't get back to the Book to go back. Stairway stays flooded! Any help??

I'm pretty sure that it was very recently that the ScummVM project have had success in getting the Myst games to work reliably with ScummVM. From my understanding, they don't change the games, they simply change ScummVM to make the games work. In general, many games were not based on ScummVM initially. Instead, the ScummVM project continuously add other games to support with their software. Riven is another that was recently added that did not ever use ScummVM. So, no, I don't think you have missed out all these years, it wasn't an option all that time.

I think in general, you can simply copy all the games from the various copies of ScummVM and put them into a single instance of ScummVM. That can save disk space, and ScummVM then becomes a sort of game manager from which you start and then choose which game to play from a list. I've done that with a few games and it's worked so far.

That also means you can update to a later version of ScummVM when it fixes any issues it had with some of the games. The game stays the same, but ScummVM is what changes. So copy it out of an old version of ScummVM into a later version of ScummVM.

While ScummVM is intended to be cross platform, sometimes the same game might have different issues on different operating systems. The ScummVM website lists the level of success they've had in trying to get each game to work, sometimes with notes of differences for operating systems, along with their plans for other games. You might as well as try your games on different operating systems, as it's simply ScummVM that has to work with the operating system. The "VM" is for virtual machine, after all.
