Hey
I'm kind of a little annoyed here ... I already owned Real Myst on CD. Tried installing that one, patching it and it ran very VERY VERY (unplayable) slow...
I then downloaded a warez copy of Real Myst to see if nothing was wrong with my CD files... exact same issue .... same slowyness....
Then I read about the GoG version and that it's the "newest" version... ok me buys this game, downloads, installs and what do I find ? The EXACT same performance issues as both the original CD as the warez copy..... in other words 5.99 down the drain....
My system:
Windows 7 32bit
6GB of DDR3 ram
Quadcore i7 CPU
Ati HD5870 2GB GPU
In other words, my system beats the required specs by a VERY big margin. I tried in both the lowest (640x480x16) resolution as well as my native (1920x1200x32) resolution but the amount of lag is basically identical...
In the menu (book) everything is smooth, my cursor, the opening of the book, the "flight movie" on the right page.. that all goes as smooth as canbe ... then I click on the picture, a blue bottom loading part comes up and when it drops me on the docks .. well it takes about 10 seconds to finally "land" just cause it goes in horrible fps frame by frame movement.....
1. Anyone has the same problem ?
1.1 Anyone fixed it ?
1.1.1 How did you fix it if you did ?
2. If there is no fix can I ask for a refund ? I really have no use for the same files I by now already had twice if it doesn't even fix my problem :( .... sorry but just venting frustration here as actually putting down money (which I don't have that much spare off to start with and yes 6 dollars IS a amount I have to start debating about on spending)... and well it didn't solve anything :(
Thanks for anyone who can help me ....

kiva: put it on xp compatability mode

Tried that, pretty much tried any combination really, windows 98/ME .. XP .. Vista ... with or without admin rights.. Disabling visual themes, desktop composition etc.... all doesn't help
Also tried installing those codecs (even though Im fairly sure its nothing to do with codecs), not sure what they were called anymore, would need to look it up ... indigo video codecs or something along those lines ... anyway that didn't help either..
Would not know then. That worked for me and im running on W7 x64.
You can try what says here
Edit: Now that I remember it was the change from direct 3d to direct 3d hal in the options that worked.

Unfortunately, I don't see the "setup" options file that I'm supposed to run to run things in direct 3D Hal...anyone able to give me a hand?

Go into the game start menu folder and look for the icon named 'setup'.

I've got a similar problem. Real Myst is completely unplayable for me. Whenever I start it up, all the colors are weird, things are clipping where they shouldn't be, everything runs at about 3fps, and then when I start a new game everything freezes and I can hear what must be the sounds of the world where you start, but only a few squares are visible.

I tried changing to HAL (there appear to be 2 identical options for HAL and 2 identical options for HAL and T&L or something), but that makes RealMyst unable to start.
If you guys still have problems, check this out: link.
