Is it possible to play Myst Masterpiece in window mode?
In fullscreen everything is stretched and very blurry.

Unfortunaly I don't believe windowed mode is possible. You could have a dig around the conf files for the game if it has any but I've not heard anyone manage to do it yet.
You could run it full screen but at its original resolution so with black borders around the edges to remove the bluriness. It might look quite small though, If your running an nvidia or ati card just go into the control panel and you should have some scaler options. For nvidia its under "adjust desktop size and postion", Just tell that not to scale. Not sure what its called for ati but if you dig about it should be there.
There is a DirectX windowing application - DXWnd. (In fact, there may be more than one app that can do this). Basically, it is intended to run any DirectX application within it's own window, so can force games that don't support windowed modes to be run within a window anyway.
I've never tried it myself and I don't think it works with all games. I don't even know if Myst Masterpiece is a DirectX game. Google it and see if it works for you.
The only other alternative is very over the top as it requires a lot of work to set up and probably isn't worth the effort. That is to run it within a virtual machine with the virtual machine running in a window.

The problem with DXWnd even though it may window games they are not truely windowed. Your mouse is still confinded within the game screen and you have to still alt tab to use the desktop.

It is. The only Myst game that is not a DirectX game (beside the Mac OS versions) is the original Myst.
Agreed, if these games ran in smaller windows they'd be perfect. I assume there's technical reasons they can't do that easily.
The link below contains a patch to allow Myst ME to run in windowed mode. You'll have to use an hex editor to apply it.
It's not thoroughly tested, nor supported, nor by any means "official", use it at your own risk.

If this kind of "solution" is not allowed here, please delete.
I am not a programmer by any means and have no idea how to use the Patch mentioned in the post above. "Use a hex editor to apply it" .. apply it to what?

Thanks in advance,

Kay
Hm, i suspect he means the .exe file. The first number is what it currently looks like, the second what it should look like.

I know this is an old topic, but I just installed Myst ME via GOG Galaxy and had the same issue playing in fullscreen mode.
I decided to check the installation directory and, lo and behold, there are .ini files with which to configure the game settings. No need for a sketchy patch.

For me it was here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Myst Masterpiece Edition

Edit the following file: myst25.ini

change the following line from

fullscreen=true

to

fullscreen=false

Now it works perfectly within a window which you can resize to whatever dimensions work best for you.
Dude, you totally saved me. I forgot how different (and small and low res) the old SVGA monitors were, and having control over being full screen or window made a huge diff. Thanks, Man!
