I seem to have this light blue horizontal line on the left side of my screen. it happens on my desktop PC and laptop. Any idea why? Changing the resolution or options doesn't seem to have any effect, neither does compatibility mode.

Which Myst game ?
And this is during gameplay ?
Damn I always forget each game shares forum sections - this is RealMyst and yes, during gameplay
If you mean a light blue vertical line at the left side of the screen i have it too. Also, in some places you'll probably notice an horizontal one at the top of the screen. Depending on where you are in the game, the line(s) can be complete (top to bottom, left to right) or partial (bits of the line missing) and sometimes they just go away entirely
I don't have any idea why they're there, but i wouldn't worry too much. Focus on the game and you'll barely notice them ;)

well, i'm so happy to have a copy of the game working flawlessly on my machine that i really don't mind it ;)
I just tried with different resolutions and that doesn't make them go away, so while they go away on their own in some areas, i really don't know if there's a way to get rid of them all togheter.
edit: damn typos...

If something bugs you that much and you have a crt monitor you could always use your monitors setup buttons and shift the screen ever so slightly to the left so it disapears. Might have to shift it back when you play other things but should get rid of the line problem.
If you have an lcd monitor though you might just have to put up with it.
I have the exact same problem. I've tried messing around with all of the settings and can't find anything that works. I also sent a message to GoG about two weeks ago and haven't heard anything from them. I tried ignoring the lines, but they flicker so much that I simply cannot; they completely break the immersion for me. If anyone comes up with a solution, please post it here. Thank you so much.

Same problem here. :( I've searched around and I can't seem to find any solution.
Did you try disabling anti-aliasing?
I had the same problem. Tried changing every imaginable setting. Could it be a video card compatibility issue? I'm using an N*Vidia GeForce FX.
At least it's not game-breaking.

Yes. I tried that by itself and I tried it several times with other settings changed as well, but it had no effect.

I have an NVidia GeForce Go 7300. I suppose it could possibly be video card compatibility, but I sure hope it isn't.

Technically, no, but it butchers the immersion, which is just as bad.
