Hi people,

I purchased the game today on GOG, installed normally, but for some reason when I click "play" nothing happens. It seems to be starting but after a couple of seconds nothing happens and the "play" button is normal again.

Tried executing from the folder, ran it as admin, ran it in compatibility modes, but still nothing happens.

I tried googling a possible solution but I can't seem to find anything on how to fix this.

Anyone having the same problem? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Did you install DirectX9? Are you on Windows 10?

Firstly have you enabled Direct Play?

Open Control Panel
Open Programs and Features
Choose "Turn Windows Features on or off"
Check Legacy Components and DirectPlay

Or secondly (if that doesn't work) are you using Galaxy? If so, uninstall the game then re-download the game using the classic installers (non Galaxy). Then install that version somewhere like C:\Games (not Program Files or Program Files (x86)) and see if that makes a difference.

tried the thing with the installation, didn't work either...

I really can't figure what's the problem and i'd love to play the game :/

This may sound stupid, and it probably is, but perhaps is there one of those little permissions boxes popping up behind something else asking "do you want to allow this program to run or make changes, "Yes" "No""?

Since you're getting the starter box(or whatever it's called) you might as well muck about with the video settings...that probably isn't it, but when the game launches the intro videos start before the loading screen brings the game up. Low video settings and a direct install/opening without galaxy seems keeping it simplest to me.

Sorry I don't have anything more useful, but I can tell you that the key to me getting KotOR to run on win10 seems to have been turning ON vsync.

^^ Ah, this is one really stupid thing in Windows that happens quite often. ^^ Took me several minutes to realise the first time I encountered it.

I guess you're right, playing a bit with the settings does the trick quite often indeed. Saved me a couple of times with other games too ;)

The problem is, i don't even get the "starter box" to begin with. When I click on the application icon (folder, desktop, galaxy, it's all the same), NOTHING happens :P

All it does is some waiting, "freezing", implying that ihe computer is busy with a process for a few seconds and then, nothing. Dunno :(

Have you checked your log file for errors? I believe it's in the Mount & Blade installation directory, and it should be called "rgl_log.txt".

Maybe it will provide some kind of clue.

If that file doesn't even exist, then it's probably a windows permission thing - you may need to grant Windows write permission in that directory. Personally I install all my games in a separate "Games" folder, and never use default locations such as "Program Files" for that reason.

One last suggestion - could it be your antivirus program kicking in? This seems to be a common problem with quite a few games lately. Try adding an exception in your antivirus to see if that helps.

Also, I'd recommend getting in touch with Gog support. They can help you try to make the game work, and they should be able to offer a refund if they can't (notice that you MUST contact them within 30 days of purchase if you want a refund for technical issues).

I just did this, as I have already tried EVERYTHING else and nothing happens. I hope they will be able to help me somehow...all i want is to play the game

Hopefully you were able to get this damned good game running. I am no kind of expert, but if you can't even get the launcher box up it sounds like a bad install that can't run or computer permissions stopping it.

Hope it works. Post here if you find a solution!

Hey Im on Windows 10,

Warband didnt launch at all I didnt even see the launcher. Both with the exe downloaded from the dev website and the steam version.

I fixed it by first disabling the windows firewall or later by giving the exe file permission in:
Windows Defender Security Center/ Ransomware protection/ Allow an app through Controlled folder access

now both versions for me, hope this helps
