The default button configuration in Mortal Kombat 2 is completely unusable. How do I change it? I've tried pressing F9 and F10, but nothing works. What a strangely put together game.

You would have to keep pressing F10 while the game is in it's startup sequence or during the demo sequence.

If the game had already started and you are on the character select screen or if you are in the middle of a game then the Configuration Menu will NOT appear regardless of how many times you keep pressing F10.

There's also a code you can use by typing DIP while in the Configuration screen. I think you have to hold Shift since the code is case sensitive.
If MK2 is running in DosBox you could try the DosBox keymapper. Press Ctrl + F1 while the game is running and then click on Mapper.

All in all we really could have use a Manual that clearly states this in writing, as it's a nightmare trying to figure this game setting when the game loads it does not bring you to a Main Menu that allows you to adjust any of the game's settings.

The only big advantageous thing that this DOS version of MK2 have over the Windows versions from MK Arcade Kollection and Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition is that it supports a Debug Cheat Mode, so for those that got really frustrated with the game they can use this to easily see the endings and beat the game.

Anytime you see the copright info, the first screen when you load the game up just type:

AICULEDSSUL (You must hold Shift to put his in correctly since the code is Case-Sensitive)

Then Press F9 to have access to the Debug/Test Modes which are more or less identical to the one found on the Sega Genesis/Sega Megadrive version of Mortal Kombat 2.

Have fun!
