I've recently tried to play Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the first time in a year, I haven't had a controller in awhile.

Can this be played by keyboard controls or does it have to be played primarily through a controller? I tried to set the control options to keyboard but it won't set keyboard button map. Anyway to fix this?

In MK4 when I tried to assign buttons in settings, I press Enter to set the key and it just immediately sets the action to None, even if I haven't pressed anything. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to edit an .ini file somewhere and input the desired keyboard settings that way? The game plays fine using the default keys, but the default keys are awful and I want to change them!

Yes, this game on PC was primarily made with keyboard controls in mind. In order to customize the keys, press Esc, than click on Options, and go to Keyboard settings. After you finished binding the keys press Save.

Yes by default these games use numpad with the arcade button layout. It feels great to play these on keyboard vs pad IMO, closer to arcade.

Since July I've primarily been using my keyboard and mouse for all my games since gamepads are too expensive.

I'm still having the same problem it still won't respond to keyboard settings when I try to set the buttons or even a number pad it does nothing. When I originally played Trilogy I was using a gamepad it responded to using a gamepad. but with keyboard I can't even get pass the title screen even if I set the keyboard keys. Does Trilogy need a patch or specific keyboard like a USB board rather than a onboard laptop keyboard?

I didn't even realize I had responses I wasn't notified. I've been trying to use a keyboard with MK Trilogy but its not working.

I tried that it didn't work. I Just tried it again today after realizing I had responses to my post after 4 months.

I tried using the external options on the windowed mode to set my keyboard bindings and saved but it did nothing. I even rebooted the game and my laptop to be sure it still does nothing. Unless MK Trilogy requires a USB keyboard rather than a onboard laptop keyboard. When I first played this game a year and a half ago I played it with a gamepad it worked but with a keyboard I can't even get pass the title screen. No matter what I set as the enter button it won't do anything, the only button that works is the escape button. I even tried setting all controls to the Numberpad of my keyboard still nothing.

UPDATE: Unsolved Mysteries theme: Never mind! I figured it out. I couldn't set the controls through the game cause my keyboard was switched to FALSE in the dixi config settings. I simply switched it to TRUE and now I'm playing MK Trilogy. Unbelievable! We need Tech manuals to come with these. I almost contacted support.

Never mind! I figured it out. I couldn't set the controls through the game cause my keyboard was switched to FALSE in the dixi config settings. Try going into the main file and find the dixi configuration settings file. You should be able to change your keyboard values through that file. I wasn't able to play Trilogy till I found my keyboard wasn't even registered in the config file.
